Arkansas High girls win both matches over Magnolia, De Queen

Arkansas High’s girls team won both its matches over Magnolia and De Queen, going 4-0 against the Lady Leopards and 3-1 against the Lady Panthers Thursday on the Razorback courts.

AHS’ boys won the match against De Queen, 4-1, but fell to Magnolia, 3-1.

Amy Claire Mugno and Reese Chesshir won both of their girls doubles matches, as did boys doubles team Matthew Mobley and Patrick Cook.

Bryunna Brewer and Charleigh Wren teamed up to win their doubles match against Magnolia, Wren paired with Lauren Jones to win the doubles against De Queen, and Brewer won her singles match against the Leopards.

Football

Tigers’ JV shuts out Hogs

Tyrell Miller rushed for a pair of touchdowns and finished with 120 yards as Texas High shut out Arkansas High, 28-0, in a junior varsity football game at Tiger Stadium in Grim Park.

Keith Williams rushed for 125 yards and a score for the Tigers, while teammate Caden Dickson totaled 25 yards and one TD.

Defensive end Devaughant­e Jack, linebacker Treston Whitehead, and cornerback Au’duarris White were Texas High’s defensive standouts.

Texas High’s freshmen squad defeated Arkansas High, 36-16.

Rian Cellers scored the Tigers first touchdown on a 61-yard toss to LaJontae Wrightner. Cellers connected with Dashaun White for the 2-point conversion.

Vontrey Anderson scored from 3-yards out for Texas High. Clayton Smith caught a 2-point toss from Cellers.

Gavon Smith caught a 38-yard bomb from Cellers to put the Tigers on the board.

Dequarreon Colllier raced 31-yards to the end zone. Cellers ran in the 2-point conversion.

Cellers finished off the scoring for Texas High, with his 18-yard scamper to the end zone.

Collier also had a 42-yard intercepti­on return defensivel­y.

The Tigers are 1-0 overall and travel to Liberty-Eylau on Thursday.

L-E splits

Liberty-Eylau defeated Carthage in the junior varsity clash, 19-12.

Damien Henderson scored two touchdowns for the Leopards.

Malik Watson scored on a 5-yard strike from Caylevion Cooper.

The Leopards defense was spotlighte­d for their performanc­e by the Liberty-Eylau coaches.

The Carthage Bulldogs defeated Liberty-Eylau in the freshmen game, 27-8.

Takylan Hampton scored on a 16-yard strike from Parker Goodman for the Leopards. Goodman ran in the 2-point conversion.

Isaiah Hill and Michael Robinson each had intercepti­ons for the

Leopards.

Josh Gamble and Austin Gonzales were both spotlighte­d as standouts from the Liberty-Eylau coaches.

Redwater defeats Hooks

REDWATER, Texas—Redwater’s junior varsity squad beat Hooks at home, 28-7.

Parker Davis connected with Logan Johnson on a 40-yard heave for the Dragons first score. Davis punched in the 2-point conversion.

Johnson scored from 6-yards out for Redwater.

Davis connected with Johnson on a 68-yard bomb for another Dragon score. Nick Fernandez ran in the 2-point conversion.

Davis scored Redwater’s final touchdown on a 10-yard run.

The Dragons are 2-0 overall and travel to Harleton on Thursday.

Tigers’ 8th defeat Hogs

Tae’Shon Richardson scored two touchdowns as Texas Middle School’s 8th grade defeated North Heights, 22-14, at Razorback Stadium.

Richardson scored on a 45-yard reception and a 40-yard strip fumble return. Teammate Demarco Banks had a 60-yard touchdown run and two, 2-point conversion­s.

Mar’Qavious Watkins scored twice for the Razorbacks, from 58-yards and 65-yards. Logan Williams connected with Billy Davis on the 2-point conversion.

Brayson McHenry was an offensive standout for TMS, while William Rogers and Laquinces Scott were defensive standouts.

The Hogs are back in action on Monday with the 7th grade hosting Ashdown. The 7th and 8th grade host Mount Pleasant on Thursday.

Bears outlast Lions

DEKALB, Texas—Ty Olson scored on runs of 42 and 11 yards to lead DeKalb’s junior varsity to a 22-14 win over New Boston.

Dakota Williams caught a 9-yard TD from AJ Burgin for the Bears’ third touchdown of the game. Williams grabbed a pass from Burgin for the 2-point conversion. Olson ran in a 2-point conversion for DeKalb (2-0).

Josh Packard had a 7-yard touchdown run, and DJ Mitchell ran in the 2-point conversion to give the Lions an early 8-0 lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, Packard intercepte­d a pass and scored a TD for New Boston.

Offensive standouts for New Boston were Packard, who hit on 6 of 10 passes for 123 yards, and receivers Kyle Atkinson and Gavin Rawls. Defensive standouts were Tyrone Hunter, Julian Taylor, and Cody Rutherford.

Panthers take down MS

FOUKE, Ark.—Trenton Crabtree and Jayden Pittman each rushed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns to help power Fouke’s junior high over Mineral Springs.

Pittman finished with 18 carries for 177 yards and TD runs of 12 and 4 yards, and Crabtree rushed 15 times for 117 and scores from the 8 and 28. Crabtree also had a pair of 2-point conversion­s, and Pittman ran for another.

Cannon Garrett threw a 2-pointer to Dylan Attaway for the Panthers.

For the Hornets’ touchdowns, QB Terrel Fricks and receiver Keijuan Hicks hooked up for three long TD passes. The first covered 40 yards, the next 52 and the last 65 yards.

Junior Scrappers extend streak

NASHVILLE, Ark.—Nashville’s junior high team shut out Magnolia, 35-0, to extend the Junior Scrappers’ win streak to 57 in a row, dating back to the 2010 season. The score remained 35-0 the entire second half.

Nashville quarterbac­k Ty Gordon rushed 16 times for 144 yards and scores of 60 and 3 yards, running back Keyshawn Stewart scored three times, catching a 42-yard strike from Gordon and rushing for TDs of 4 and 14 yards. The total yardage was 325-125 in favor of the Scrappers, who host Hope next Thursday.

Volleyball

Hawks sweep North Lamar

PARIS, Texas—Lucy Woodman and Halli Meredith had seven service points each to propel Pleasant Grove’s 8th grade to a 25-23, 25-23 win.

Ashlyn Foster slapped in seven points as the Hawks won the 8th B match, 25-21, 14-17, as time expired.

Kadie James led Pleasant Grove with 13 service points, and the Hawks won, 25-23, 25-10, in the 7th A game.

Autumn Crouch served in nine points, and PG’s 7th B won the match, 25-12, 21-23, as time expired.

Dragons sweep Bulldogs

REDWATER, Texas—Reagan Markham slapped in six service points as Redwater swept Queen City, 25-12, 25-22, at Dragon Gym.

Chyna Stiger had four service points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Macey McDonald and Erika Roberts each served in 10 points to propel the Lady Dragons over Queen City in the timed 8th B match, 25-15.

Maycie Covington served in seven points as Redwater’s 7th A team defeated Queen City, 25-22, 25-22. Rylie Patillo paced the Bulldogs with five service points.

Jaylen Autrey had a match-high 26 service points, and the Dragons won the timed 7th B match, 25-9.

Hooks wins 3 of 4 over Brahmas

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas—Aubrey Neuman served in nine points as Paul Pewitt’s 8th A team defeated Hooks, 25-16, 25-12.

Makayla Duhon paced the Lady Hornets with three service points.

Hooks won the 8th B match, 25-18, 13-16, as time ran out on the Brahmas. Emily Minor, Cerani Bennett, and McKenzie Wharton each served in four points for Pewitt.

Ale Jefferson had nine service points, and Hooks won the 7th A match, 26-24, 13-25, 25-19.

Ashawni Cooper slapped in 14 service winners, including seven aces, for Paul Pewitt, while teammate Makayla Jackson helped out with 11 service points.

The Hornets won the 7th B match, 25-18, 22-18, as time ran out.

Red Lick, Hughes Springs split

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas—Ann Elise Linsday and Kaylee Tibury each served in five points, but Red Lick’s 8th A team fell to Hughes Springs, 25-17, 25-21.

Ally Smith slapped in eight service points, and teammate Molly Black added seven as Red Lick won the 7th A match, 25-18, 25-18.

TMS wins

The Texas Middle School volleyball teams traveled across the state line to clash with North Heights Junior High.

TMS’ 8th grade squad defeated the Lady Backs, 25-15, 25-6.

Lauren Allred, Vanessa Perez and Alex Reed, each scored eight points for the Lady Tigers.

The 7th grade Lady Tigers defeated North Heights, 23-25, 25-14, 15-11.

Emma Prince led TMS with 13 points. The Lady Tigers are back in action on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

L-E girls take 3 of 4

PITTSBURG, Texas—Liberty-Eylau won three junior high matches over Pittsburg, rallying to win both ‘A’ matches.

The 8th grade A Lady Leopards won 13-25, 25-17, 25-14, with Olivia Forte serving nine points. Pittsburg won the ‘B’ match.

Myah Hurd served nine for the Liberty-Eylau 7th grade ‘A’ team in a 25-18, 20-25, 25-19 victory. L-E won the ‘B’ match, 25-14, 25-10, with Baylee Bergt serving five winners.
