The 102nd showdown between Texas High and Arkansas High lived up to the billing. Emotions of the storied rivalry exuded itself on the field, although both teams were able to keep their emotions in check.

7-0.

The first half of play consisted of lapses in judgment on both sides of the field.

“The frustrating part is we probably left some points on the field that we felt like we could've taken advantage of,” Texas High head football coach Gerry Sanford said.

“You don't pin this on one kid or another, there's a lot of emotion that comes with this game.”

Arkansas High junior quarterback Drake Browning ignited the Razorback faithful in the first half.

Browning completed 7 of 11 passes, 126 yards and a interception.

Browning scored the game's only touchdown from a yard out.

“I expected the results we got today,” Arkansas High head football coach Barry Norton said. “That's the big thing with our kids; they have to expect to win and they have to want to win.”

“I have wonderful young men that put in a lot of work for these results.”

Razorback speedster Irijah Price finished with three snags for 48 yards. Price made his presence felt without the ball in his hands with his jaw-rattling block to spring a sprinting DeJordan Mask down the sideline.

Mask finished with 3 grabs for 81 yards for the Hogs.

Both defenses played soundly the entire contest.

Texas High junior gunslinger Coltin Clack was 14 for 22 passing, finishing with 99 yards in the air and a interception.

Junior tailback Chris Sutton toted the rock 21 times for Texas High garnering 84 yards in the game. Sutton also had 2 receptions for eight yards.

Tiger junior wideout Chris Lyles finished with four receptions for 39 yards.

“There was a lot of built up anxiety going into this game for us this week,” Sanford said. “Our kids fought hard and that's the one thing that we're looking for. They're doing a great job with their effort. I think we played better than we did last week as a whole.”

Arkansas High used a dual running-back system that balanced the Razorback offense.

Juniors Jordan Hall rushed for 33 yards on eight carries and Tyree Black finished with 33 yards on seven totes.

“I think I know more about this game than anybody,” Norton said. “I've been in this game 19 times and now on both sides of it. I've

seen how this thing works. Don't lose the game and prepare your defense.”

Texas High is now 0-2 overall, hosting their Bowie County rival, Liberty-Eylau on Friday at 7:30 at Tiger Stadium.

Arkansas High is currently 1-1, hosting Camden-Fairview Friday at 7 p.m. Texas High 0000—0 Arkansas High 0700—7
