Bears overrun Lions, 42-7

- By Bob Krayl

NEW BOSTON, Texas—DeKalb set the tone of the game early that it was going to run, and run, and run against New Boston until stopped. They weren't.

Senior running back JaQuan Jackson ran the ball 23 times for 214 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead the Bears to a 42-7 victory at Lions Stadium Friday evenimg.

DeKalb had 290 yards rushing with almost all coming in the first three periods.

New Boston was its own worst enemy, especially in the first half when it fumbled twice, had an interception, and had 80 yards assessed in penalties.

After its first possession, New Boston put DeKalb in a deep hole when Tyler Strain nailed a 50-yard punt that was downed at the 1-yard line.

That was the only bright spot for the Lions as DeKalb (2-0) went 99 yards in 11 plays for a touchdown. Jackson carried nine times for 93 yards and scored from 1-yard out.

Jackson continued his strong running, adding 63 more yards for three touchdowns in the second quarter on two runs of six yards, and a 25-yarder, giving the Bears a 28-0 halftime lead.

Jackson scored his fifth touchdown early in the third quarter on a 5-yard run.

Even when Jackson took a rest, the strong running game did not stop.

Alex Clark took over and ran for 69 yards on just six carries, scoring on a 13-yard run for a 42-0 lead. Daniel Espinoza was perfect with his sixth extra point.

Reserves played the entire fourth quarter for the Bears.

New Boston (0-2) was finally able to break through in the fourth period when Jerrian Cole scored on a 17-yard run. Cole had 86 yards on 12 carries.

DeKalb's defense was strong, limiting New Boston to just 152 yards with
