Rush leads Texas High to victory

Treyaunna Rush once again showed up big on the court, recording 19 kills, 19 points, 13 assists and five blocks as Texas High took down Greenville in its volleyball district-opener on Friday, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 26-24.

Lady Tigers’ Vicki Willis added 15 points and Kaitlyn Cross finished with 14 points and 11 kills. Katelyn Jordan helped her teammates out with 19 assists.

Texas High improves its record to 17-7, 1-0. THS’ JV squad suffered a defeat, losing 18-25, 26-24, 20-25 to Greenville.

Zay Williams and Cashlin Gooden had 14 points a piece for the Lady Tigers.

In ninth-grade action, Greenville once again got the upper hand, beating Texas High, 9-25, 16-25. THS’ Mollie Johnson finished with six points.

PG swept by Sulphur Springs

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas—Pleasant Grove’s girls couldn’t find their groove and suffered a 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, 23-25 loss to Sulphur Springs on Friday.

Britton Anderson led the Lady Hawks with 12 kills, and Allison Michaelis put nine points on the board with 14 assists. Grace Pickleman and Macey Adams added eight points apiece.

Pleasant Grove’s Macy Young scored 13 points for the junior varsity team in a 17-25, 26-24, 23-25 loss to Sulphur Springs.

The ninth-graders lost, 8-25, 16-25.

Maud sails past Lady Pirates

SIMMS, Texas—Maud’s varsity defeated James Bowie on the road Friday, 25-22, 25-13, 25-20.

Katie Vaughn led James Bowie with 11 service points and nine assists.

Brittney Myers contribute­d eight digs and Rachel Norman added five kills for the Lady Pirates.

James Bowie is back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Detroit.

Redwater wins in five

REDWATER, Texas—Redwater dropped its first two sets against Queen City in its district-opener, but eventually took control to take a 20-25, 16-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-12, victory.

Lady Dragons’ Bailey O’Bannon filled up the stat sheet, recording 10 points, 12 kills, five blocks and 14 digs on the night. Teammates Karlee Carmony and Karley Morrow added 10 points apiece.

Queen City’s Jacie Lance finished with 16 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Redwater (15-4, 1-0) travels to DeKalb on Tuesday.

Lady Mustangs top Pewitt

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas—Lady Mustangs’ Kensley Echols had a game-high 18 points as Hughes Springs went on the road to take a 13-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-17 victory over Paul Pewitt.

Peyton Blythe added 13 points for the Lady Mustangs. Cypress Wright, Pearl Perry and Zoe Lanier all had six points.

Lydia Makowiecki led the way for the Lady Brahmas, scoring 11 points and three aces. Brelee Lawings scored 10 and had 8 kills, as teammates Ebbony Cobbins and Calli Osmon recorded six points each.

New Boston sweeps

New Boston jumped out to a fast start against Daingerfie­ld on Friday, walking away with a 25-14, 25-8, 27-25 win.

Lady Lions’ Grace Duffer led the way, scoring 23 points and dishing out 22 assists in the win. Morgan McAlexande­r, McKenzee Thomas and Carleigh Reeves finished with 8, 7 and 6 kills, respective­ly, for New Boston.

New Boston is in action again on Tuesday when it hosts Hooks.

Lady Hornets defeat DeKalb

Abby Russ and Sidney Pardue had 14 points apiece as Hooks defeated DeKalb, 25-20, 25-16, 15-25, 25-17 on Friday in its district-opener.

Lady Hornets’ Lexie Frachiseur had 15 kills and four blocks. Emma Farquhar added five points in the win.

Hooks extended its record to 15-8, 1-0.

TENNIS

Hawks fall on the road

HALLSVILLE, Texas—Pleasant Grove’s varsity boys and girls tennis teams were swept in the doubles competitio­ns on Friday during their season-opener against Hallsville.

The Bobcats won with an overall score of 18-4.

In singles action, Hawks’ Wes Humphrey defeated Hallsville’s Payton Helman, 6-3, 6-1.

On the girls side, Shannon Lee, Caroline Joyce and Gracie Higgins were victors in their singles matches.
