Ropers, riders get set for rodeo at fairgrounds

-

Cowboys, cowgirls, and fans are geared up for a 3-day rodeo event at the Four States Fair.

Competitors from all around will descend upon the rodeo arena to see who is the best. The rodeo is set for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14-16. The Texarkana Xtreme Bulls will perform on Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

“We’ve got some big things that people have been talking about returning this year,” Lisa Barr, the fair’s vice president, said. “We’re glad to have Xtreme Bulls, which is growing.”

The Xtreme Bulls features bull riders in a bulls only event.

Troy Lerwill will have his wild child persona and motorcycle act, which is one of the most celebrated in professional rodeo.

“Troy was here two years ago, and he was a big hit,” Barr said. “He brings in people who may not be rodeo fans just to see his act and to see him with the crowd. It’s our hope that he brings those people in and helps them be rodeo fans.

“We’re also having Miss Rodeo America, Lisa Lageschaar, coming to town this year.”

Lageschaar is from nearby Pickton, which just 100 miles southeast of Texarkana, and is a former local rodeo queen contestant.

Pete Carr Pro Rodeo, the rodeo’s producer based in Dallas, brings many of the greatest bucking horses and bulls in the sport.

“They are all amazing,” Barr said. “They do everything that we need, and they are just above and beyond a typical production company. Every person is part of our fair family, and we’re always thrilled to have them.”
