Sheriff says dangerous theft suspect may be in Texarkana area
Man reportedly in possession of AK-47
Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect in the recent theft of a pickup and assault rifle should be considered armed and dangerous and possibly is in the Texarkana area.
Shelby McKenzie, 21, is a 5-foot-9 white male with blonde hair and blue eyes and weighing about 160 pounds, said Sheriff James Singleton. He also has a tattoo under his right eye.
McKenzie allegedly stole a gray 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and an AK-47, Singleton said.
The sheriff said McKenzie may be in the company of a friend, Destiny Harvel, age unavailable, a white female who is a suspect in the theft of a Walther P-22 handgun from a residence in Hempstead County.
“McKenzie is believed to have access to both the AK-47 and handgun. He and Destiny Harvel are considered armed and dangerous and users of methamphetamine.”
About noon Sept. 4, William Putz contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report the theft of a pickup from his driveway. Putz stated he left the keys in the truck.
The truck belongs to Salt Creek Cable of Benton, Ark. Putz stated the truck had a full tank of fuel and another 70 gallons in a fuel tank in the bed of the truck.
Putz stated he did not exactly when the truck was taken but knows it was after 12:30 a.m. Sept. 4.
At 10:30 a.m. Sept. 4, deputies were dispatched to 840 Arkansas Highway 355 East in reference to the theft of a Walther P22 semiautomatic pistol. The pistol was loaded.
