Hughes Springs’ run game too much for Pewitt

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas—After coming off a notable win against Arp last week, Hughes Springs got back to business again, this time defeating Paul Pewitt on Friday night, 22-12.

Pewitt had a tough time stopping the running attack as Tradarian Craver piled on 220 yards on 18 carries. Isaiah Bolden and Ty Menefee contribute­d to the ground game with two scores in the second quarter to help the Mustangs take a 16-6 lead into halftime.

Bolden found the end zone again in the third quarter for the Mustangs' final score.

Brahma quarterbac­k Lucas Hungerford threw for 289 yards on 23 completion­s, including touchdown passes to LaJathan Allen and Sam Smith.

Hughes Springs (3-0) will welcome Hooks next Friday, while Paul Pewitt (1-2) will travel to New Boston.

DeKalb 49 , Maud 14

DEKALB, Texas—Despite being a close contest in the first quarter, DeKalb ran away with a 49-14 win over Maud.

The Bears scored 21 in the second quarter to break the 14-all tie, with the help of two 80-yard plus runs by JaQuan Jackson and and a Kole Dooley 31-yard pass to DJ Gray to go into halftime with a comfortabl­e 35-14 lead.

The Cardinals couldn't seem to find a solution for standout DeKalb running back Jackson, as he rushed for a season-high 276 yards on 16 carries—which include five touchdowns—to add onto his already 400-plus yards on the season. Fellow running back JeMichael Wherry had eight carries for 96 yards and a score.

DeKalb finished the game with 428 total yards on the ground.

Maud quarterbac­k Gage Jones finished with 164 yards on 15 of 24 yards passing and a touchdown, and running back Rayne Bailey had 31 yards rushing on six carries.

Cardinals running back Brooks Minter and receiver Jordan Creutz accounted for Maud's scores.

DeKalb (3-0) will host Linden-Kildare next Friday, and Maud (0-3) will look for its first win against James Bowie at home.

Linden-Kildare 41, Queen City 17

LINDEN, Texas—A big second quarter propelled Linden-Kildare past Queen City in an early battle of unbeatens.

Tigers' LaDavian Johnson ran in two scores, Ja'Kevian Rose returned a punt return, and Marty Johnson connected with Jacob Owen for a touchdown.

Johnson and Rose, each scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown for Linden-Kildare in the second half.

Johnson finished with 328 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns for the Tigers.

Rose finished with five carries for 35 yards and a touhdown.

Marty Johnson completed three of 16 passes for 58 yards, a touchdown and a intercepti­on.
