Pleasant Grove @ Frisco

TEAMS: Pleasant Grove Hawks (2-0) at Frisco Raccoons (0-3)

KICKOFF: 7 p.m., Toyota Stadium LAST WEEK: The Hawks were on a bye week, and the Raccoons fell to Wilson, 17-14.

LAST YEAR: Frisco defeated Pleasant Grove, 42-16. GAME FACTS: Hawks’ head coach Josh Gibson goes up against his father, Raccoons’ head coach Vance Gibson, for the second time in as many years. Frisco is a Class 5A school, while Pleasant Grove is Class 4A.

COACHES’ COMMENTS: Pleasant Grove’s Gibson— “Playing against my dad is a special moment for many reasons. I grew up on his hip, and I wanted to be a coach since a young age. It’s a neat experience because my brother and I get to show him what we have built out here together and that is a proud moment for me. For our kids and the community, we get to play at a professional venue. It’s special for our kids.

“Frisco is playing with a lot of young kids. There are one series away in every game from being 3-0. They are a sound football team and are well coached. They are struggling thus far because they are playing with younger kids. We’ll still have our hands full. Defensively, we have to play extremely sound within our scheme. If we don’t

play good assignment football, they’ll get big plays. Offensively, we will have to create big plays and execute. If we don’t play sound within our system, they will make big plays.”

Frisco’s Vance Gibson—“The positive thing is that I get to see a lot of the family. The negative thing is Pleasant Grove is pretty darn good this year, so we’ll have our work cut out. What the coaches have been able to do with the program and within the community is a neat thing to see. My son has done a great job at Pleasant Grove.

“We’re 0-3 and we’ve had the opportunity to win each game. We’ve had turnovers and we allowed a kickoff return touchdown. We don’t have many guys back from last season, and we’re young. We are going to have to start growing up. The kids always play extremely hard. We are not going to worry about the opposition as much as we are going to work on what we can control.” RADIO: KTRG 94.1 FM, 6:30 p.m.
