- —JOSH RICHERT

TEAMS: Liberty-Eylau (0-3) at Atlanta (1-1) KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m., Rabbit Stadium. LAST WEEK: The Leopards fell to Texas High, 37-23, and the Rabbs had an open date. LAST YEAR: Atlanta rallied in the second half for a 31-26 victory over L-E.

GAME FACTS: Tonight is the Rabbs’ Homecoming; last year’s meeting was L-E’s Homecoming game. The Leopards are averaging 39.3 points per game while Atlanta is averaging 17 points after being shut out by Henderson to start the season. The Rabbs have allowed 27.5 points per outing, and Liberty-Eylau has given up 47.7 points per game. L-E is 7-3 in its last 10 games against Atlanta, which has won 3 of the last 5 meetings. This wraps up a 3-game road trip for the Leopards, who are home against Pleasant Grove next week for their Homecoming game. The Rabbs go in the road to New Boston next week.

COACHES COMMENTS: L-E’s Steve Wells—

“Atlanta looked really good against Daingerfield. Defensively, as always, they have athletes who

can run. The secondary looks pretty athletic and have some big looking kids on the defensive line. Offensively, they may have the best tailback in East Texas; that kid (Jawan King) can go, and he’s only a junior. He’s very well built, is strong and fast.

“The quarterback (Andrew Samples) is a dual-threat guy, and we’re going to have our hands full on defense. We have

to do a good job of reading the keys and lining up correctly.”

Atlanta’s Matt McClure—“We’ve had an open week, and I just want to see some improvement from Week 2. We got to go back and work on a few fundamentals that were lacking in our first two games. We just want to get better, execute better and see our kids rise to the occasion.

“Liberty-Eylau presents a very explosive offense, and we’re going to have to limit the number of big plays and limit the yards after catch. We have to be able to disrupt the quarterback a little. Defensively, they’re getting better each week and can really run. We’ll have to do something to negate their speed and create some explosive plays for us.”
