De Queen dominates invitation­al

MCLEOD, Texas—De Queen earned first place in the varsity boys’ and varsity girls’ McLeod invitation­al cross country meet Thursday.

McLeod’s boys and girls were second, while Redwater’s girls finished third.

Liberty-Eylau won the junior varsity girls run with 20 points, and De Queen was second with 48.

De Queen won the jayvee boys contest with 27 points, and James Bowie was second with 81.

McLeod’s boys and girls each earned first place in the junior high runs. LibertyEyl­au’s junior high girls were second.

FOOTBALL Leopards JV post shutout

Korbyn White scored three touchdowns to lead Liberty-Eylau’s junior varsity to a 42-0 shutout of Atlanta at Harris Field.

Talveyon Cooper had two TDs, and teammate Damien Henderson had one score for the Leopards. Defensive standouts for L-E were Tyler Parks and Caron Eaton.

Ezekiel Brown found Kentraille Collins on a 60-yard touchdown pass, and Liberty-Eylau’s 9th grade defeated Atlanta, 16-6.

Keylon Watson caught a 30-yard pass from Semondre Lewis for the Leopards’ first score of the game. Takylan Hampton had two, 2-point conversion runs.

Josh Gamble, Maliek Riley, and Darrion Crabtree were outstandin­g linemen, while teammates Ahmajay Carter and LaMarcus Moore were defensive standouts for L-E.

Hawks top Panthers

Pleasant Grove built a 27-13 lead on Sergio Rodriguez’s 70-yard intercepti­on return in the fourth quarter and held off Spring Hill for a 27-19 win of a junior varsity game at Hawk Stadium.

Rodriguez also had a 50-yard TD reception from Grayson Taylor with 29 seconds left in the first half to stake the Hawks to a 14-7 lead at intermissi­on. Antonio Watkins added a 3-yard scoring run for PG (2-1), and Nick Martin returned a kickoff 80 yards to paydirt after the Panthers cut the deficit to 14-13.

Anthony Mejia booted three PATs for Pleasant Grove.

Mustangs’ JH wins 2

HOOKS, Texas—Hughes Springs’ 7th and 8th grade football teams defeated Hooks, 14-12 and 34-8, respective­ly.

David Johnson scored a touchdown for the Hornets’ 8th on a 35-yard run, and Monterrian Henderson tacked on the 2-point conversion.

Logan Davis had a 45-yard run to paydirt, while teammate Matthew Hays had a 76-yard run for Hooks in the 7th grade contest.

TMS’ B sweeps

KILGORE, Texas—Tyler Harris recovered fumble in the end zone to propel Texas Middle School’s 8th B over Kilgore, 6-0.

The 7th grade A game was canceled due to lightning.

Dequavion Willis had touchdown runs of 15 and 5 yards to lead the Tigers’ 7th B over the Bulldogs, 14-0. Willis also had a 2-point conversion run.

Lions take 2 against Brahmas

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas—Caden Glass had a 60-yard touchdown run and a 2-point conversion run as New Boston’s 8th grade defeated Paul Pewitt 16-6.

Clay Fant scored on a 3-yard run, and Isaac Goldsmith had a 2-point conversion run for the Lions.

Demetrius MChester had touchdown runs of 20 and 10 yards as New Boston’s 7th grade defeated the Brahmas, 22-6.

John Sabitsana had a 12-yard touchdown run and two, 2-point conversion­s for the Lions.

Bear JV posts shutout

LINDEN, Texas—DeKalb’s junior varsity blanked Linden-Kildare, 28-0.

Ty Olson had a pair of rushing touchdowns that covered 45 and 4 yards, and A.J. Burgin threw two touchdowns. Burgin connected with Ramal Vaughn for a 32-yard TD and a 2-point conversion, and the DeKalb QB hit Jamar Vaughn for a 6-yard score. Arie Love ran in a 2-point conversion also.

In the junior high (7th and 8th grade) game, Amare Love had an 88-yard touchdown jaunt and caught a 59-yard TD from Dillon Britnell as the Bears won 20-6. Peyton Yandle added a 4-yard scoring rush, and Britnell hit Mason Trejo for a 2-point conversion.

Fouke blanks GC

GENOA, Ark.—Trenton Crabtree rushed nine times for 105 yards to pace Fouke’s junior high to a 12-0 win over Genoa Central.

Crabtree also had a 17-yard TD run, and Dylan Attaway caught a 5-yard TD from Kanon Garrett for the Panthers (2-1).

Fouke won the 7th grade game, 22-16. Aiden Roberts scored twice for the Panthers, Ethan Thornton added a pair of 2-point conversion­s, and Collin Foster had a rushing TD.

Connor Reed had all of the Dragons’ points, running for a pair of touchdowns and both 2-point conversion­s.

TENNIS Tiger jayvee tops PG varsity

Texas High’s junior varsity won a team tennis match, 15-10, over Pleasant Grove’s varsity at PG’s courts. THS hosts Longview next Thursday. PG travels to the Dallas area to play Princeton and Anna on Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL North Heights splits

MAGNOLIA, Ark.—Keonnie Strickland served in eight points, including three aces, but North Heights fell to Magnolia in three sets.

Keniyah Brayant served in eight winners to lead the Lady Backs as they swept Magnolia in the 7th grade match.

North Heights plays at the New Boston tournament Saturday.
