DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS: S Ken’Trell Chatmon had a 28-yard interception return, recovered a fumble to set up a TD and a 26-yard punt return to set up another TD. LB Cedric Dickerson and Chatmon each had 1 tackle; S Dominique Williams added nine tackles and caused a fumble; DT Trey Revels had eight tackles; DE Tremaine Brown had six; and LB Donté Coopwood and LB Marzavin Riles added five each.

COACH STEVE WELLS’ COMMENTS: “Right before halftime was big, the defense stopping them, our special teams getting good returns and short fields, two times, and then our offense able to convert.

We came out and scored the first possession of the second half to go up two scores, and that’s one thing we didn’t do in the Gilmer game and we’ve needed to do that. We need to have that killer instinct.

“We gave up some yards; Atlanta’s running back (Jawan King) is as good a back as we’ve seen all year and probably will see all year. He’s big, hard to tackle, built low to the ground and has sprinter’s speed when he gets in the open field; I though he was really harder to tackle than the Carthage kid, who is being recruited by everyone in the country.

“It was our best game as fas as kickoff coverage, kickoff return and punt returns; we emphasized that last week because I felt that’s where we were weak. That helped us getting good field position. Goben did a good job of kicking it nice and high (on kickoffs), and we were able to pin them deep a lot of times.”
