Curley Wolves aim to keep 20-game win streak alive

- By Earl Gill

PRESCOTT, Ark.—The Prescott Curley Wolves (5-0, 2-0) led by new quarterbacks, are poised for another deep playoff run in 2017.

“We have some athletic ability at the quarterback position,” Prescott head football coach Tommy Poole said. “We have to stay on course and try to improve every week as a team. Hopefully, we can fix our mistakes from last week and focus on the task ahead on Friday.

We want to utilize all of the offensive weapons we have. All three of those guys bring different dimensions to our offense. Each of those guys can give a defense problems in the right offensive set.”

Seniors Cade Haynie, Thomas

Muldrew and sophomore Larry Peters have combined for 911 yards, while completing 55 of 93 passes and 10 touchdowns.

Muldrew has also torched opposing defenses on the ground, rushing for 318 yards on 42 carries with six touchdowns.

Senior MyKal Burns leads the Prescott rushers with 379 yards on 40 carries and five touchdowns.

“We want to keep fresh legs on the field at all times,” Poole said. “We like a fast tempo offense, so if a kid has a long run, we'll put another in for him so our team doesn't lose a step. Having a few different kids that can go in and get the job done for us helps our offensive philosophy.”

Junior Jaydon Riley has 12 carries for 234 yards and two touchdowns for the Curley Wolves. Senior Laroderick Walker has toted the rock six times for 43 yards and three scores.

Junior Cameron Cox leads the Prescott receiving corps with 17 snags for 368 yards and three touchdowns. Senior wideout Kadarius Pearson has 17 receptions for 304 yards and two touchdowns for the Wolves.

“We only have one football,” Poole said.”It's hard to spread it around and get everyone the touches they need. They all have done a great job of doing what we have asked of them. It's all about us winning. Our kids have bought into that, so anything that will help us win, their on board with.

Our receivers allow defenses not to pile in the box. We have some weapons we can stretch vertically, that will make defenses be honest and cover our passing game.”

Senior Peyton Chandler leads the Prescott defense that has only allowed 29 points in five games.

Chandler has collected 47 tackles this season.

“Peyton is our senior leader on the defensive side of the ball,” Poole said. “We expect a lot from and he knows that. Our entire defensive unit is playing well. We're proud of our front four, linebackers and secondary.

We take things one week at a time. We don't look down the road and we don't look in the past. We look at every week like we're 0-0. All we can worry about is this week and trying to get better as a team.”

Prescott hasn't lost in conference play since 2013, a stretch of 23 consecutive conference wins.

Prescott hosts Horatio at Eddie Jackson Field at Cummins Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
