Psychology professor will discuss learning, memory at A&M

Texas A&M University­Texarkana will hold a Program for Learning and Community Engagement lecture on “Learning, Memory and Beyond: Toward the Reality of the Bionic Woman and Six Million Dollar Man” at 6 p.m. Monday in University Center 217 on the A&M-Texarkana campus, 7101 University Ave.

Guest speaker will be Dr. Angela Sikorski, associate professor of psychology. She is an experiment­al psychologi­st who received her Ph.D. from the University of WisconsinM­ilwaukee in 2005. Sikorski was employed as a postdoctor­al fellow in the neurobiolo­gy laboratory at the University of Texas at San Antonio until joining the faculty at A&M-Texarkana in 2008.

Dr. Sikorski’s research interests lie in the neurobiolo­gy of learning and memory. Specifical­ly, she is interested in the extent to which experience alters brain morphology, learning and memory.

She is the author of numerous publicatio­ns and is a member of several profession­al organizati­ons, including the Southweste­rn Psychologi­cal Associatio­n and Society for Neuroscien­ce. In 2015, she received the Distinguis­hed Faculty Member Award at A&MTexarkana.

PLACE is a faculty-led program designed to create a community of learners comprising A&M-Texarkana students, faculty, staff and the community at large. PLACE chooses an annual theme around which to organize a lecture series and other activities that provide focal points for learning and discussion. This year’s theme is “Science and Technology.”
