Insulation company to close, move plant from Maine to Texas

-

BRUNSWICK, Maine—A global insulation company is closing its plant in Brunswick, Maine, in order to relocate operations.

Owens Corning announced Monday the plant was closing and moving its machinery to Wichita Falls, Texas. Owens Corning spokesman Todd Romain says the 60 employees who are being laid off will not be relocated.

According to Romain, the company wanted to be closer to its customers and lower cross-country transportation costs. Romain says the decision doesn’t reflect the Brunswick plant’s performance.

The Brunswick plant had primarily made fabrics for the wind power industry. Maine Composites Alliance executive director Steve Von Vogt says most wind turbines are manufactured in Texas and Iowa, so the company moves makes sense.
