A letter from the director ...
Every year, when I am asked to write an article around this time, my mind starts swarming with ideas.
What do I want to say, what do I want people to know?
There are so many options and so much that I want all of you to know.
I want you to know that our local Race for the Cure helps women and men right here in our community.
I want you to know that every day we have women call our office needing mammograms or education on breast health and we are able to provide them with this because of the funds you all help us raise at the Komen Texarkana Race for the Cure.
I want you to know that just because we are a breast cancer organization doesn’t mean that we don’t want to bring awareness to all cancers. We believe that we all need to have a cause and mission to believe in and many of us hope that a cure for one can mean a cure for all.
That is why we continue to do what we do, because we believe the people in our service area need us. We know that there are individuals who use our funds and depend on them.
I also want you to know about our survivors—the ones we honor and the ones we memorialize. I want you to know that each one of them has such a positive spirit inside of them. They are all fighters and believers. That is what has gotten them this far on their journey, and many days, the reason we keep fundraising.
I want you to know that your registration and participation makes such a difference in people’s lives. We are more than just a race and we are more than just the color pink. I encourage you to learn more about our organization, our programs, and a little more about the survivors you may know. I guarantee that you will receive a blessing.
So, this year, would you come take a walk with Komen Texarkana Race for the Cure? Be More than Pink. Get to know our survivors and about our organization. Come celebrate with us Oct. 21 at the Four States Fairgrounds and Bobby Ferguson Park.
