White Oak topples Hughes Springs, 55-20

WHITE OAK, Texas—Hughes Springs suffered its first loss of the season on the road to District 8-3A rival White Oak, 55-20.

Chandler King caught the Mustangs' first touchdown from a 38-yard strike from Andrew Gaul with 5:17 left in the second quarter.

King caught his second touchdown of the game on a 55-yard pass from Ja'Kobie Craver. King caught two passes for 93 yards.

Craver scored the final Mustang touchdown on a 43-yard scamper to the endzone. Craver finished with five carries for 47 yards.

Honey Grove 27, Linden-Kildare 18

LINDEN, Texas—Honey Grove's ground attack outlasted Linden-Kildare on the road as the Tigers lost its first game of the season.

LaDavian Johnson put the Tigers on the board in the first quarter with his 2-yard run.

Johnson finished with 94 yards on 17 carries and a score.

Ty Patterson caught L-K's second touchdown of the game on a 9-yard Marty Johnson strike.

Marty Johnson completed 10 passes on 26 attempts for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Ja'Kevian Rose scored the Tigers final touchdown of the game on 16-yard reception from Johnson.

Cumby 78, Maud 62

MAUD, Texas—In a game that had 1,241 yards of total offense, it was Maud that came up short in the end.

What hurt the Cardinals the most in their District 9-2A, Division II opener was the defense allowing 697 yards on the ground.

Cumby's Tylan Brown rushed for 387 yards on 31 attempts and six touchdowns as fellow running back Cameron Scott piled on 298 yards on 20 totes for five more scores.

Maud's dual-threat quarterbac­k Gage Jones had another big night, passing for 227 yards and five touchdowns on nine of 20 passing, while rushing for 156 yards on 144 carries and another two scores.

Cardinals receiver Brooks Minter caught six balls for 170 yards and three TDs.

With the loss, Maud drops its record to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in district play.
