James R. Nowlin, age 88 went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 27th. He was born in Lubbock, Texas on September 19, 1929. Using his mechanical engineerin­g degree from Oklahoma University, where he belonged to Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, he worked for B.F. Goodrich in Oklahoma, Pennsylvan­ia, and Indiana before coming to Texarkana to eventually become the vice president of Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. He and his wife, Joan Nowlin, who preceded him in death, were very active in their community and Williams Memorial United Methodist Church. Jim served in numerous leadership roles in the church and taught Sunday school for over 40 years. At times he served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wadley Regional Medical Center, president of the Texarkana Country Club, and Chairman of the Arkansas Economic Developmen­t Commission. Jim was an avid golfer, fisherman, and duck hunter. To those of us who loved him, we feel his greatest accomplish­ment was being a great role model and supporter for each member of his family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Earl and Alice Nowlin and his beloved wife, Joan. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Moss and her husband Jon, Peggy Weaver and her husband Bob, one brother, Ed Nowlin, and a sister, Barbara Bolinger. He is also survived by five Grandchild­ren, Stephanie Oberstein, Allison Sunderman, Rob Sunderman and his wife Jennifer, Preston Weaver, and Jon Moss, Jr. and six GreatGrand­children, Sydney and Dylan Oberstein, Emma Hyzen, and Aron, Ethan, and Noah Moss. He is also survived by his best fourlegged buddy J.J.

A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Brad Morgan officiatin­g. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M.
