Lady Lions advance in postseason

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas— The Lady Lions punched their ticket to the next round.

New Boston (19-10, 11-3) swept Chapel Hill (17-18, 4-4) at Willie Williams Gym in Mount Pleasant, 25-19, 25-19, 26-24, in a Class 3A bi-district playoff match.

The first set started off a slamming affair with Chapel Hill’s Savannah Lockler and Jacey McElveen.

The Lady Red Devils started the first set leading, 5-2.

Senior Hannah Ratcliff paced the Lady Lions in the first set. Ratcliff finished with four service points.

Morgan McAlexande­r chipped in four kills and three blocks for New Boston. McAlexande­r also finished the first set with four service points.

The Lady Lions came out scorching in the second set as

they took a 7-0 lead.

Chapel Hill gained ground on the Lady Lions when Debbie Ugalde was at the service line. Ugalde cut into the New Boston lead with her five consecutiv­e service points.

New Boston sophomore Grace Duffer led the offensive charge in the second set. Duffer finished with 10 points.

McElveen led the Lady Red Devils attack with 10 kills.

The third set went more the way of the Lady Red Devils.

Senior Katy Kidwell finished with seven service points.

After trailing by more than 6, New Boston surged back.

Ratcliff took over at the service line trailing by two points. After she was finished, New Boston held the lead by two.

New Boston plays either Winona or Elysian Fields in the area round this week.
