THS faces Forney
PARIS, Texas— Texas High has been here before, and the Lady Tigers have a surplus of experience and talent as they begin their postseason.
The Lady Tigers (26-10) and Forney (30-9) clash in a Class 5A bi-district playoff volleyball match at 6:30 p.m. today at Paris’ Wildcat Gym.
Texas High tied for first place in District 16-5A and is the No. 2 seed, and the Jackrabbits are the third seed from 15-5A. THS started the year with just one loss
from last year’s playoff team.
“It’s going to be a battle between the lefties,” Texas High head coach Melissa Hardy said. “They also have a big lefthander, who is their biggest threat. She comes off the right side and plays all the way around, and they look to get her the ball, even from the back row.”
Treyaunna Rush is the big hitter for the Tigers, who have been in the playoffs all 14 seasons under Hardy. Kaitlyn Cross is a middle blocker, and Unique McBride also plays in the middle. Katelyn Jordan and Rush share the setting work, Vicki Willis is the libero, Ashlyn Stiger helps at the net, Mia Wilson also plays on the back row. Olivia Lower plays all the way around and outside hitter.
“We’re going to have to block well,” Hardy said. “We’re going to have to keep pace, and get our blocks up in time with their hitters. And we’ve got to be aggressive at wanting the ball. We’ve got a lot of girls who can contribute, and this will be a big test in the first round.”
The winner advances to play either Frisco Reedy or Little Elm in the area round later this week.
