MESQUITE, Texas—For the first time in four years, Pleasant Grove’s volleyball team is in the Class 4A regional semifinals.

The Lady Hawks (28-12) take on Argyle (24-18) at Mesquite Poteet High School today at 6 p.m in the opener of the Region II-4A volleyball tournament. The winner will play either Krum or Carthage, who play at 8 p.m., back at Mesquite Poteet Saturday in the regional finals.

The championship match is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Argyle is agile and athletic,” Pleasant Grove head coach Amy Collvins said. “They aren’t as tall as Rusk,

but they are a typical, solid playoff team. They are well rounded, and they play at a fast pace.

“We will have to execute the offense, and take care of the ball on our side. We want to make it hard on them. At this point, we will have to play well in all aspects of the game to be successful. We will have to play hard and be at the top of our game.”

The Hawks are coming off a 33-31, 27-25, 27-25, sweep of Rusk in the regional quarterfinals.

Pleasant Grove started its playoff run with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-22, sweep of Mabank in the bi-district round. The Hawks then defeated Bullard, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13, in an epic area round match.

The Lady Eagles swept Carter in the area round and swept Community in the bi-district match. Argyle defeated Decatur, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 25-16, in the quarterfinals.

Becca Collom and Abby Pickett are the assistant coaches for Pleasant Grove.

“Having Becca and Abby makes a world of difference,” Collvins said. “It takes all of us to accomplish what we’ve done this year. I am blessed to have them.”

The regional champion will represent Region II in the state tournament next week.
