Liberty-Eylau at Quinlan Ford

- —JOSH RICHERT

TEAMS: Liberty-Eylau (4-5, 3-1) at Quinlan Ford (5-4, 0-4) KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m., Hobart Lytal Memorial Stadium. LAST WEEK: The Leopards knocked off Princeton, 55-44. Ford fell to North Lamar, 49-30.

LAST YEAR: Liberty-Eylau rallied past Ford, 60-22.

GAME FACTS: The L-E win last week forged a threeway tie atop the District 7-4A, Division I standings with the Leopards, Paris and Princeton. With a Liberty- Eyl au win and Princeton win over Anna, or an L-E win and Paris loss to North Lamar, the Leopards will be the top seed in the playoffs. NL and Ford have been eliminated from play-

off contention. Panther QB Linus Beierschmitt has passed for 732 yards but rushed for 1,305 yards and 18 touchdowns.

COACHES COMMENTS: L-E’s Steve Wells—“If we win and Princeton beats Anna, we take the No. 1 seed, which gives us a little better draw in the playoffs. Ford runs the wing-slot offense. When you go against spread every week then go against that style offense, it’s an adjustment. I’m really impressed with their quarterback; he can go. They do throw the ball some too, and they’ve played everybody pretty close.

“We can’t overlook anything. We’ve got to do a good job of stopping their run game, and we have a chance to put ourselves in a really good position for the playoffs.”

Ford’s Todd Wallace—“Liberty-Eylau has so much speed and big-play capability on every play. They’ve gotten back to what they run traditionally, with the passing game and big runs off the pass. We’ve got to try to eliminate the big plays because they can go score at any time. Defensively, our plan will be to tackle well in space and prevent the big plays.

“We’re hoping we can move the ball and shorten the game. We did a really good job against Paris in the first half, but then we came out int he third quarter and turned the ball over twice. If we can move the ball against Liberty-Eylau, we can shorten the game, but when we get down there we have to score. We can’t just take field goals. Our plan for success is to keep the ball away from them, and take advantage when we have opportunities.”
