Mary Hattie Dauphin Brooks, age 88, of Atlanta, Texas, went to her heavenly home, Friday, December 1, 2017, surrounded by her lov ing family.

Ma ry Hatt ie was born January 18, 1929, in Ida, Louisiana, the eldest of six children, to Eldridge Eugene and Thelma Wilson Dauphin. She attended Huffines schools and was a graduate of McLeod High School. She then attended Charity Nursing School in Shreveport, Louisiana; North Louisiana Nursing School in Shreveport, Louisiana; and finished her nursing education at “Big Charity” in New Orleans, Louisiana. Later she returned to New Orleans and graduated from anesthesia school.

Mary Hattie was a wellknown breeder of champion quarter horses. In 2016, she was recognized by the AQHA as a 50-year quarter horse breeder. Mary Hattie had a love for her animals and music and a passion for her career. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Atlanta; a current member of Piney Grove Baptist; and a member and past Regent of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederac­y. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Dr. M. James Brooks Jr.; stepson, Marshall James Brooks III; and sister, Jerry Ann Noah.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Camille Smith and Joe Edward Dawn Jr. of Atlanta, Texas; two grandchild­ren, Mary Dawn Smith and husband, Christophe­r Smith, of Carthage, Texas, and Joe Dauphin Dawn and wife, Krystl, of Atlanta, Texas; two great-grandchild­ren, Gunner and Halley Dawn of Atlanta, Texas; one brother, Gene Dauphin of Natchez, Mississipp­i; two sisters, Latricia Kennedy and Ramona Halten of Atlanta, Texas; one stepdaught­er, Kathleen Brooks Verschoyle of Atlanta, Texas; four step-grandchild­ren, Brook, Becky, James and Victoria; a special cousin, Ken Anderson of Atlanta, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Hanner Funeral Chapel with Dylan Manley officiatin­g.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 pm, Monday, December 4, 2017, at Hanner Funeral Service.

Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
