Redwater mayor announces bid for commission­er

REDWATER, Texas—Robert Lorance has announced that he will be a candidate for Bowie County commission­er, Precinct 4, in the upcoming 2018 Republican Primary Election early next year.

“I was raised in a law enforcemen­t LORANCE family, so public service has always been a big part of my life,” Lorance said. “If elected commission­er, I pledge to put the interest of Precinct 4 citizens first by properly managing the budget, taking care of roads on a consistent basis and providing competent, active leadership on important regional issues. Our area is poised for tremendous growth and we need to be in the driver’s seat on matters affecting our longterm future.”

Since 2010, Lorance has served as mayor of the city of Redwater, where he said he has earned a reputation for results-oriented leadership. During his tenure, Lorance said he has successful­ly led efforts to increase public safety patrols, dramatical­ly decrease criminal drug activity, implement significan­t improvemen­ts to the city’s water and transporta­tion infrastruc­ture and attract many new business, all the while maintainin­g the lowest municipal tax rate of any city in Bowie County.

“By working together as a forward-thinking team, we have accomplish­ed many great things and have set the city of Redwater on a successful path for the future,” Lorance said. “I want to bring this same pro-active leadership to Bowie County.”

Besides his service as mayor, Lorance has worked in the private sector for Frito-Lay Company for the past 24 years and manages his own hay harvesting business.

“I grew up with a family that instilled in me the value of hard work,” he said. “As a young boy, I worked alongside my grandmothe­r, the late Iva Smith, in her business, Redwater Upholstery. I also worked closely with my grandfathe­r, Robert Smith, in his cattle business. These early experience­s definitely shaped my life in a very positive way.”

Lorance, a fourth-generation Bowie County resident, is married to his wife, Laura, and they have three children.
