McLeod, Redwater Girls go 3-0 in invitational
REDWATER, Texas—McLeod’s and Redwater’s girls each went 3-0 in their respective pools and play for the title of the Redwater Invitational today.
In a battle of unbeaten boys teams, playing a 5-team round robin, Genoa Central and Linden-Kildare clash in the opening game of today’s action.
Redwater and McLeod play for the girls’ championship at noon in the high school gymnasium. Avery and Paul Pewitt square off at 1:30 in the old gym for third place; LindenKildare and Bloomburg place in the consolation final at 10:30 in the new gym; and Ore City and Hooks clash at 10:30 in the challenger’s bracket.
In today’s boys games, Genoa Central and Linden-Kildare clash at 9 a.m. in the high school gym; L-K and Bloomburg play at noon in the old gym; and the host Dragons and James Bowie clash at 1:30 in the new gym.
Girls Division Ore City 44, Linden-Kildare 31
Three Lady Rebels scored in double figures as Ore City picked up its only win in pool play.
Cassie Gabaldon scored 14 points for Ore City, Hannah Pendarvis added 11 and Theresa Uehling had 10.
Skylar Vaughn and Jaimye Gaston had nine points apiece for LindenKildare.
McLeod 46, Paul Pewitt 36
Selena Moon and Shelby Davis combined for 29 points to help the Lady Horns top the Lady Brahmas.
Moon led all scorers with 15 points, and Davis had 14.
Ebbony Cobbins scored 13 points for Linden-Kildare.
Avery 48, Ore City 28
Jill Whitney scored 17 points to help the Lady Bulldogs earn their first pool victory.
Alexis Coughran added nine points for Avery, and Cassidy Kelsoe had eight.
Hannah Pendarvis had 14 points for Ore City, which trailed 14-3 after one quarter.
Redwater 52, Linden-Kildare 30
Four Lady Dragons combined for 43 points as Redwater completed a 3-0 run in pool play.
Bella Fernandez and Savannah Corbell had 12 points each for the Dragons, Bethanee Calicott had 10 and Haley Latham added nine.
Siarra Johnson paced LindenKildare with 14 points, and Jaimye Gaston added 14 rebounds.
Paul Pewitt 59, Bloomburg 31
Ebbony Cobbins ripped the cords for 21 points to help the Lady Brahmas top the Lady Wildcats.
Mya Heath added 17 points for Paul Pewitt, which led by 19 at halftime, and Dede Jones had 10 points.
Haylee Campbell led Bloomburg with 14 points.
McLeod 49, Hooks 24
In a game which wasn’t going to affect either teams’ seeding, McLeod built a 12-point lead at halftime and led by 24 through three quarters.
Selena Moon led the Lady Horns with 12 points, Shelby Davis added nine and Sibbie Comer had eight.
Kayla Lafayette led the Lady Hornets with 11 points.
Boys Division Redwater 47, Bloomburg 19
After a slow first quarter, the Dragons used a 21-point second period to build a 25-13 lead and were never seriously challenged by the Wildcats.
Peyton Davis led Redwater with nine points, and Med Kapasi contributed nine.
Hunter Garrett paced Bloomburg with 10 points.
Linden-Kildare 76, James Bowie 35
Ja’Kevian Rose scorched the nets for 28 points to help power the Tigers to a rout of the Pirates.
Ty Patterson had a doublefor Linden-Kildare (8-0) with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Bailey Obenosky and Jonathan Cody scored 14 points apiece for James Bowie.
Genoa Central 72, Bloomburg 21
The Dragons extended a 10-point advantage from the first quarter with a 21-point swing in the second to take a commanding 41-10 lead at intermission.
Kole Allen drained five 3-pointers for Genoa Central and had 19 points, and Trevor Wells added 14 points.
Conner Hooker led Bloomburg with nine points.
Genoa Central 53, Redwater 43
GC point guard Kolten McCoy poured in 19 points in a heated game between the host Dragons and visiting Dragons.
Colby Cobb added 13 points for Genoa Central (4-3), which led by 11 at halftime, and Lawson Michaelis had eight.
Gabe Menah led Redwater with 13 points, and Parker Gravitt and Med Kapasi had eight each.
