Pleasant Grove teams have chance at Gunslinger sweep

NEW BOSTON, Texas—The second day of the Gunslinger Tournament had a variety of outcomes, including blowouts, late rallies, and wins coming in the final seconds on Friday at Lion Gym.

Today’s action will see Pleasant Grove having a chance at sweeping the boys and girls championsh­ip games, with Liberty-Eylau girls and Paris boys also vying for the tournament titles.

New Boston and Clarksvill­e boys were also winners after Day 2, and Texas High JV and New Boston girls found success in the girls division.

Pleasant Grove and LibertyEyl­au girls will compete in the championsh­ip game today at 6 p.m., and Arkansas High will clash with Fouke at 3 p.m. in the third-place contest. Texas High’s junior varsity will play New Boston in the consolatio­n game at noon, while L-E’s JV squad will finish their tournament play against Hope at 9 a.m.

In the boys bracket, Pleasant Grove will play for the Gunslinger title against Paris at 7:30 p.m, and Liberty-Eylau and Hope will battle it out for third place at 4:30 p.m. Clarksvill­e will go up against New Boston at 1:30 p.m. in the consolatio­n game, while Daingerfie­ld and Liberty-Eylau’s junior varsity will meet at 10:30 a.m. in their tournament finale.

Boys Division Pleasant Grove 68, Liberty-Eylau 64

Pleasant Grove came out on top in a thriller against LibertyEyl­au that wasn’t decided until the final seconds as the Hawks advanced to the championsh­ip game to face Paris.

Kameren Woods scored a team-high 16 points for the Hawks, and teammate Layton Jackson added 15.

Phillips poured in a game-high 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and teammates Howard Barron, Kentraile Akins and Dominique Williams each finished with 10 apiece.

New Boston 58, Liberty-Eylau JV 24

New Boston forced 42 turnovers and held Liberty-Eylau’s junior varsity team to 11 points in the first half while keeping the trend going in the second half as well.

Deaundre Robinson helped pace the Lions to their 34-point win with a gamehigh 19 points, and Jamin Powell added 10.

DeAnthony Price led the young Leopards with five points.

Clarksvill­e 53, Daingerfie­ld 51

Clarksvill­e allowed 20 points in the fourth quarter but was able to stymie a late Daingerfie­ld rally to hold on for a victory.

Neo Scales scored 15 points for Clarksvill­e.

Daingerfie­ld’s Michael Reeves finished with a game-high 21 points.

Paris 38, Hope 27

Paris controlled the clock most of the way through and came away with the victory to advance to the championsh­ip game.

Trevon Dennis scored a team-high 12 points for the Wildcats.

Hope’s Zakee Lawson scored a gamehigh 13 points.

Girls Division Pleasant Grove 75, Arkansas High 49

Pleasant Grove built a comfortabl­e 44-22 lead going into intermissi­on and carried the momentum into the second half to defeat the Lady Razorbacks.

Sha’Nequa Henry ripped the nets for 24 points, while Monique Walker added another 18 for the Lady Hawks.

Arkansas High’s Tierra Holliman scored a team-high 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Daniels finished with 10.

Texas High JV 44, Liberty-Eylau JV 19

The Lady Tigers got off to a fast start and never looked back as they cruised past Liberty-Eylau’s JV squad.

Shakeria Webb led the way for Texas High, scoring 18 points.

The Lady Leopards’ Tucker put in five points, and two teammates scored three each.

New Boston 48, Hope 46

The Lady Lions got off to a fast start in the first quarter, but had to hold off a late rally en route to their triumph over Hope.

Carleigh Reeves led New Boston with 12 points and Hailee Nero added nine.

The Lady Bobcats had two scorers in double-digits, with Zahrra Woods scoring 11 points and Ranayzia Miller finishing with 10.

Liberty-Eylau 66, Fouke 62

The Lady Panthers scored 27 points in the third quarter to turn a 15-point halftime deficit into a lead, but it wasn’t enough as Liberty-Eylau got hot again in the fourth quarter to take the win.

Taylor Crabtree scorched the nets for 26 points, while teammate Kaliya Thompson added 14 more.

Fouke’s Hannah Mauldin led the team with 23 points, and went a perfect 11 of 11 from the charity stripe. Taylor Hardin and Lakyn Smallwood also contribute­d, scoring 12 and 11, respective­ly.
