L-E SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET ABOUT SURPLUS PROPERTY
Trustees of Liberty-Eylau Independent School District will meet at 6 p.m. today to consider declaring a district-owned parcel of land at Buchanan Loop and Starlite Drive as surplus.
District spokesman Matt Fry said the 3.5-acre property had been used for a while as an outdoor classroom area when the high school had block scheduling, but that a lot of the trees died in a drought and the land had to be cleared.
“In that location, it’s not something that we can use,” he said. “It’s not big enough to use as a campus or anything.”
The property, which has not been previously put up for bid, was donated to the school in the mid-1960’s.
“At some point it was left in a trust managed by the Bowie County Judge,” Fry said. “It ended up in the school’s possession after a certain amount of time.”
In other business, a public hearing will be held on the district’s Texas Academic Performance Report for 2016. The board will also consider purchasing 11 Clevertouch Smart Boards for the elementary campus for a total of $50,163. Once the systems are purchased, Fry said the district would immediately begin using them. He added that since they are on wheels, they could be easily transported to the new elementary building, scheduled to for completion by August 2018.
“Everything’s on wheels and has a lot more functionality,” he said. “If we can get something like that in our hands, we’re gonna use them.”
The meeting will be held in the Board Room, 2901 Leopard Drive, Texarkana, Texas.
