Texas-side titles to be awarded at Twin Rivers pageant
Two Texas-side titles will be awarded at the Jan. 6 Miss Texarkana Twin Rivers Pageant held at the Pleasant Grove High School Performing Arts Center.
Specifically, the pageant will crown new titleholders for 2018 Miss Texarkana and Miss Twin Rivers. Arkansas-side titles and the teen titles for both states were awarded at a late August pageant, but there were not enough competitors for the Texas-side titles at that time.
The Miss Texarkana Twin Rivers pageant starts at 6 p.m., while the Little Miss pageant is held the same day starting at 10 a.m. It’s not too late to enter.
“We’re still accepting applications right now for Little Miss and the two Texas Miss titles we’re giving away, Miss Texarkana, Texas, and Miss Twin Rivers Texas,” said Donna Berry, executive director of the Miss Texarkana Twin Rivers Scholarship Organization, noting for the winners about $35,000 of in-kind scholarships and prizes are available.
Berry said the scholarship organization attempted to crown these titles in August, but they didn’t get the Texas-side participation necessary. Per Miss America rules, four contestants for each title are necessary, she said.
“We decided that we would move it back to Jan. 6,” Berry said, noting that Arkansas contestants are used to competing earlier and that August was busy with sorority bids and the first week of college for many. That meant the timing was off.
Information and paperwork for those who’d still like to enter are available at the organization’s website, MissTexarkanaTwinRivers.org. “We’ve still got plenty of time,” Berry said. But the organization needs applicants by the middle of next week.
“I would personally like to thank our titleholders from last year,” Berry said, adding, “They did an outstanding job.”
For the evening’s entertainment at the pageant, titleholders crowned in August will participate, as will the Little Miss winners who are named that morning. Michelle Parham Rudolph will return as emcee. Berry said money raised is put back into scholarships and paying for the auditorium.
The Miss Texarkana Twin Rivers Pageant is an official preliminary to Miss America.
