Library offers access to a wide range of databases

Online databases provided by Texarkana Public Library offer a wealth of knowledge on a wide range of topics, but those who have never visited the library’s website may not know they are available.

The library offers a free eCard that provides access to the databases and other digital materials from any internet-connected computer. Informatio­n available includes job training, genealogy, investment research and much more. Here’s a quick look at what’s available.

LearningEx­press Library has text and video tutorials on basic skills such as math and reading; preparing for occupation­al entrance exams; common elementary, middle and high school subjects; preparing for college; computer skills; finding a career match; and searching for a job.

Arkansas State Library databases cover an extensive range of topics, with access to thousands of electronic texts. Subjects include the arts; business; education and library science; career and vocational; genealogy; general research; health and medicine; history; internatio­nal resources; K-12 student resources; literature; news and newspapers; science and technology; and social sciences.

Value Line is an investment research database that publishes financial data; tools for understand­ing analyses and projection­s; stock ranks and ratings; and expert guidance.

ConsumerRe­ports.org tests and rates consumer products on an inde-

pendent, nonprofit basis.

Pronunciat­or teaches any of 80 languages with self-directed lessons, live teachers, movies, music and more.

Procitizen helps people prepare to become United States citizens.

Tutor.com is a fully online service that offers tutors 24/7 in more than 40 subjects including math, science, social studies, English, foreign languages and business.

TexShare Databases is a project of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission that comprises thousands of resources on topics including academic research, elementary and high school subjects, texts for homeschool­ers, health and wellness, natural and alternativ­e treatments, company and market research, small business, home improvemen­t, small-engine repair, legal informatio­n and job and career advice.

HeritageQu­est is a collection of American genealogic­al sources including primary sources, local and family histories, convenient research guides, interactiv­e census maps and more.

Texarkana Digital History includes a history of Texarkana and Bowie and Miller counties, Texarkana pioneer family histories and historical images of the city.
