Alice Wilson
Alice Williams Wilson, age 78, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 in Atlanta, Texas.
Alice was born November 16, 1939 in Sulphur Bluff, Texas to Roy and Frances Holder “Fannie” Williams. During her early childhood years, she lived in Sulphur Bluff, Texas and Smithville, Oklahoma before moving to Atlanta, Texas where she graduated from Atlanta ISD. Alice enjoyed participating in the Atlanta High School Stage Band and marching band and was selected as an AllState Drummer. Alice attended North Texas State University in Denton, where she met John. After they married, they owned a Dairy Queen in Dallas before moving to Atlanta in 1965. She continued her education and graduated from East Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She began her teaching career at Bloomburg ISD in 1973 and worked there as a Kindergarten teacher, and later as a High School Home Economics teacher, until her retirement.
Alice was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Atlanta since 1965 and played the piano for the men’s Fellowship Bible Class where John taught for 38 years. She also served in the church library, as well as helping coordinate programs involv- ing the mus ic mi n - istry. Alice was a member of the ECCSRA Retired Teachers Association, and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She enjoyed being involved with her grandchildren, sewing and crafting, working in the yard, and studying genealogy.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 51 years, John H. Wilson; son-in-law Andy Washington; and granddaughter Amy Lauren White. Alice was also proceeded in death by her parents, and her siblings: David Livingston Williams, Lula Beatrice Williams Dickson, Frances Elizabeth Williams Johnson, Willie Williams, and Lee Warren Williams.
Alice is survived by her four daughters: Jonette White and husband Clay of Tyler, Texas; Sharon Cook and husband Pat of Atlanta, Texas; Cherise Wicks and husband Stephen of Atlanta, Texas; Amy Whatley and husband Curtis of Linden, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ashley White of Washington, D.C.; Bradley White and Blake White of Tyler, Texas; Casey Cook and wife Monica of Tyler, Texas; Claire Cook Chastain and husband Aaron of Galveston, Texas; Callie Cook of Texarkana, AR; Michael and Sydney Wicks of Maud, Texas; Hannah Wicks of Atlanta, Texas; Kelsey Washington Best and husband John of Winona, Texas; John Tanner Washington of Linden, Texas; Ryan Whatley of Linden, Texas; Casey Whatley Pate and husband Cory of Linden, Texas; Whitney Whatley Cooner and husband Randy of Longview, Texas; Great-grandchildren Judson and Kinsler Pate of Linden, Texas; and expected great-grandson Sawyer J. Best of Winona; as well as a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 31, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Atlanta, Texas, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Bro. Wes Mills officiating.
Internment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
