Arkansas High girls fall at home

Lady Wildcats come alive late for win

In sports, you have to play to the final horn.

Arkansas High fell to El Dorado in a heart-breaker Monday night at Razorback Gym, 45-37. The Lady Wildcats rallied for the final 16 points of the game to escape the host Lady Backs.

The contest began gridlocked, with both teams whirling shots in the first quarter to no prevail. The Lady Backs were able to claw together pieces of offense to tie the Lady Wildcats in the first, 7-7.

Seniors Tierra Holliman and Blaire Bledsoe provided offensive sparks for Arkansas High (6-9, 2-3) in the second period.

Four of Holliman’s six points came in the second quarter.

Bledsoe finished with eight points, but knocked down a crucial five points for AHS in the second. Bledsoe was also perfect from the free throw line for Arkansas High.

The Lady Backs led El Dorado, 20-18, going into the locker rooms.

Adrianne Larry came out in the third quarter determined for El Dorado (5-9, 2-3). Larry finished with a game-high 14 points, but knocked down a pivotal three shots from the charity stripe in the third.

Kiara Young knocked down shots at the 7:40 mark and also with 30 seconds remained to preserve the

Lady Back lead before the final period. Young finished with eight points for AHS.

Ty Strickland led AHS offensivel­y with 11 points and six rebounds. Strickland added four points in the third for Arkansas High.

Kiearra Boone came up big for the Lady Wildcats in the final period. Boone’s lay up at 6:38 in the fourth, cut the AHS lead to three points, 37-34.

Boone gave El Dorado their first lead of the game when she knocked down the second of two shots from the free throw line with less than five minutes remaining. Boone finished the night with 11 points.

El Dorado’s Tasia Richardson was perfect from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, which was ultimately the demise of the Lady Backs.

Arkansas High will host Hot Springs today at Razorback Gym, beginning at 5 p.m.
