TASD administrator receives national leadership award

-

Gwen Adams of the Texarkana, Ark., School District, recently received the State Leadership Award from National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators.

As TASD’s assistant superintendent of elementary education, Adams will represent the district and receive her award at the association’s national conference March 19 in Washington, D.C.

“Receiving this award is a great honor,” Adams said in a press release from the district. “Funding sources continue to shrink, and I believe it is extremely important for school districts to allocate funding that supports the needs of all students.”

Adams has more than 24 years of administrative experience. She began her career with TASD in 2006 as assistant principal at Kilpatrick Elementary, became principal, then accepted the North Heights Junior High School principal position.

She earned her bachelor of science and master of science in education from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark. Adams later earned a master of science from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway and is now pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

“We are very proud that Ms. Adams will not only represent the state of Arkansas during the NAFEPA conference, but the entire TASD Razorback Family,” Superintendent Becky Kesler said. “This award exemplifies her hard work, dedication and commitment to ensuring equitable funding for students.”
