Panthers knock off Hogs

Magnolia set the tone from the opening tip.

Arkansas High fell to the Panthers at Razorback Gym on Tuesday night, 60-41.

The beginning of the game was an up-and-down shootout with Magnolia edging AHS in the opening period, 12-11.

The Panthers continued to keep their foot on the gas in the second quarter.

Magnolia held Arkansas High to six points in the second period, which was the turning point in the contest.

The Panthers edged the Hogs going into intermissi­on, 25-17.

Magnolia started to pull

away from the Hogs in the third period, going up by as much as 10 with 4:04 remaining.

AHS senior Ajon Gray began to back down the Magnolia defenders in the third period. Gray scored eight of his teamhigh 14 points in the third quarter.

Not to be outdone, Panther senior Tyler Brown answered back, scoring nine of his gamehigh 18 points out of halftime.

Magnolia gave themselves a sizable lead heading into the final quarter over Arkansas High, 40-28.

Precision passing and patience was ultimately the difference makers between the two squads. Magnolia was willing to make the extra pass to find the open man.

Panther senior Bredrin Chambliss added to the Magnolia lead in the fourth quarter. Chambliss dropped 10 of his 18 points in the final period.

Magnolia junior Kadyn Roach finished dropping 11 points for the visitors.

AHS senior Fabian Phillips attempted to mount a comeback for the Hogs, but the Magnolia transition buckets were too much at the end. Phillips finished with 12 points for Arkansas High.

The Hogs are back in action on Friday, traveling to Hot Springs beginning at 5 p.m.
