Cowgill leads Redwater over Hooks, 59-57

REDWATER, Texas— Spencer Cowgill poured in 19 points to lead Redwater to a 59-57 win over Hooks Tuesday.

Med Kapasi lit up the nets for 18 points for the Dragons.

The Dragons (12-13, 6-6) were down by seven points with 4:30 left in the fourth quarter; at the quarter’s end Redwater had piled up 24 points and held the Hornets to 18.

The first quarter tipped in Redwaters’ favor 12-9, but hooks retaliated in the second to claim a five point leading going into halftime, 29-24.

Connor Price led the Hornets’ sting with 17 points. Dolph Culwell added 11 points, and Marc Reiter tacked on 10 points of his own.

The teams nearly broke even in the third frame with Redwater only getting a slight edge, 11-10, to shrink Hook’s lead down to four.

The Dragons laid claim to the final period; a fourth quarter come back on the road.

Redwater hosts Paul Pewitt Friday for Senior night.

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas—Hughes Springs held on late to top New Boston in a district showdown.

Tradarian Craver led the Mustangs offensivel­y, scoring a team-high 24 points and Chandler King added 13 points.

Sam Sanchez led the Lions offensive charge with 24 points and Deandre Robinson added 11 points.

LINDEN, Texas—LaDavian Johnson’s 18 points was enough to propel LindenKild­are past Avery at home.

Jamey Jackson led the Bulldogs in scoring, dropping a game-high 23 points and Cole Pasley added 14 points.

L-K defeated Avery in the junior varsity game, 42-30.

Mason Furlow led the Bulldogs with 13 points and Kagen McGuire added 11 points.

Mason Johnson led the Tigers offense with 10 points.

DeKALB, Texas—Easton Fincher lit up the nets for 19 points, including five treys, as Queen City defeated DeKalb, 59-42 in a boys varsity basketball game on Tuesday.

Timon Proby paced the Bears with 11 points, while teammate Logan Corbett added 10.

DeKalb plays at Hooks Friday at 5 p.m.

McLEOD, Texas—Zach Prince and Trevor Deel each torched the nets for 20 points as the Longhorns ran past the Pirates.

Bailey Obenoskey paced James Bowie with 10 points.

Kobe Bonner scored 14 points for McLeod in the junior varsity game, but the Longhorns fell to Hughes Springs, 52-36.

Genoa Central 58, Cossatot River 56

GENOA, Ark.—Genoa Central stopped Cossatot River from stealing the game in the final quarter to win 58-56.

Kolton McCoy spearheade­d the Dragons’ efforts with 21 points, the game high. Colby Cobb added 15 points and Alex Woodle had 11 points of his own.

Though Genoa Central took an early lead in the first quarter, 14-6, the Eagles never surrendere­d, scoring more points in the next quarter than they had in the last; climaxing at 21 points in the final stanza, a nine point spread over the Dragons, Cossatot fell just short as Cobb claimed a key rebound in the final seconds to end the contest.

Cody Brown led the Eagles with 17 points; Trenton Rosson followed suit with 15 points.

The teams knotted up in the second period with 14 points a piece, allowing Genoa Central to hold on to its eight point lead.

In the third frame the Dragons only took a slight edge over Cossatot, 3 points to be exact, to stretch the lead out to 11 before the Eagles’ points soared in the closing quarter.

The Dragons host Mena for Senior Night on Friday.
