Maud boys, girls compete in powerlifting event
MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas— Maud’s boys and girls competed in the Mount Pleasant Invitational Powerlifting Meet.
In the super heavy weight bracket, Maud’s Alex Sultz took first place by lifting a total weight of 1,450 pounds. Schoolmate Gabe Acosta lifted 1,130 pounds to claim second place.
Brock Foster and Seth Brower finished in fifth, with Foster totaling 1,125 pounds in the 242-pound class, and Brower lifting 900 pounds in the 242-pound class.
Cheyenne Rogers and Lane Carr also brought home a second-place prize in the girls’ division, as Rogers totaled 620 pounds in the 181-pound class, and Carr lifting 600 pounds in the 132-pound class. Makenna Jones finished in fifth in the 132-pound class, lifting 565 pounds.
The girls finished seventh overall as the boys took eighth.

Genoa Central boys, girls split
GENOA, Ark.—Genoa Central boys and girls split on Wednesday during the 7-3A junior high basketball tournament.
DJ Rowe led the Lady Dragons to a 37-31 victory over Horatio. Rowe finished with a game-high 16 points for Genoa Central, and Tristan Short scored 10 points for Horatio.
The boys team fell to Gurdon, 34-17, and Matthew Cheatham netted six points for the Dragons.
