Woman gets 20 years for manslaughter
She ran over boyfriend while drunk
A repeat DWI offender who ran over and killed her boyfriend while intoxicated was sentenced Friday to 20 years as part of a plea bargain in Bowie County.
Tammy Dawn Tholl, 42, appeared before 102nd District Judge Bobby Lockhart with Chief Public Defender Rick Shumaker for a plea hearing Friday afternoon in a first-floor courtroom of the Bi-State Justice Building in downtown Texarkana. Shumaker said the state has agreed to reduce the most serious of the charges facing Tholl from murder to intoxication manslaughter.
Assistant District Attorney Kelley Crisp said her office decided the lesser charge was more appropriate after reviewing the evidence in the case. Tholl pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and accepted the maximum 20-year sentence. Tholl pleaded guilty as well to driving while intoxicat- ed, third or more, and received a maximum 10-year t e r m for that offense . The two sentences will be served concurrently.
Tholl allegedly did not stop Sept. 27 after running over Mark Anthony Murray, 61, as she drove a white 2012 Nissan Maxima on Country Paradise Circle in Wake Village, Texas, according to a probable-cause affidavit. Tholl allegedly left the scene and drove to her estranged husband’s home on Meadows Lane in Texarkana, Texas, where she was arrested by DPS Trooper Chad Turner.
Tholl allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests and registered a .13 on a portable breathalyzer. Drivers are considered impaired at .08.
