Lady Tigers top Sulphur Springs

PARIS, Texas—For the third time this season, Texas High girls managed to take down Sulphur Springs. This time, however, with the district’s top seed on the line.

Antonia Porter was lights out as she scored a game-high 26 points, and the Lady Tigers stole a late inbound pass to seal a 64-61 victory over the Lady Wildcats and earn a No. 1 seed.

Texas High will play Highland Park in postseason play on Monday at Tyler Junior College.

Boys

Trinity Christian 49, Taylor 46

Trinity Christian came out of halftime and took control to defeat Taylor, 49-46, on Friday at Warriors Gym.

JR Kemp led the way for the Warriors, scoring a game-high 23 points.

With the victory, Trinity Christian (15-12) earns a two-seed and secures a first-round bye in the 7-1A East district tournament, and will await Friday’s first-round winner of the Bradley-Taylor game.

Boys

Pleasant Grove 7, Atlanta 0

Pleasant Grove boys got off to a quick start and ran away with a 7-0 shutout win over Atlanta on Friday.

Tristan Williams, Laurenz Buessemake­r, Trace Clement, Ben Awuauh, Zach Iglesia and Jordan Sneed each had a goal apiece in the victory. Williams also finished with an assist.

Bowling

AHS competes at tourney

MAUMELLE, Ark.—Arkansas High’s girls bowling team finished third and the boys placed sixth on Friday during the conference tournament at Milennium Bowl.

For the second consecutiv­e year, AHS junior Linda Himes was part of the conference champions, and freshman teammate Tricia Himes bowled her way to a third-place finish to earn a medal as both earn spots in Thursday’s state tournament in Fort Smith, Ark..

On the boys’ side, Austin Nix also qualified for the state tournament.

Tennis

PG wins three of four

PARIS, Texas—Pleasant Grove’s tennis teams went on the road and performed at a high level on Friday.

Shannon Lee won three matches to earn first place in the women’s singles, and fellow schoolmate Jisu Choi took two wins for second place, with her only loss coming to Lee in the finals.

In the men’s singles, Wes Humphrey placed first with three wins. Clark Giles won two and finished fourth.

Caroline Joyce and Gracie Higgins teamed up in the women’s doubles and won first place with two wins. The duo beat teammates Allie Ryan and Tiffany Hoang in the finals.

Ross Wyles and George Douglas were victorious in three matches in the men’s doubles while taking the first-place prize. Adam Bone and Lance Taylor also done well, winning two rounds but eventually fell to Wyles and Douglas in the finals to place second.

In mixed doubles, Kolton Johnson and Amy Lam won a round together and reached the semifinals.
