Man fatally shot at gas station
Suspect’s grandfather tips off Texas-side police of his alleged involvement
A local man was shot to death early Saturday, and the alleged shooter was turned in by his grandfather, Texarkana, Texas, police said.
Tyvon Gullatt, 22, of Texarkana, Texas, was arrested on a murder charge Saturday after Carlos Clark, 25, of Texarkana, Texas, was shot at a gas station on North State Line near Interstate 30, according to Sgt. Geoffrey Lewis, Texarkana, Texas, Police Department spokesman.
At 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Chevron gas station, 5023 N. State Line Ave. Police found Clark in the backseat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the back.
The injured man told officers the suspect’s first name before being taken to a local hospital, Lewis said. Officers were able to get a vehicle and suspect description from video surveillance footage, and detectives were called to the scene to begin the investigation, according to TTPD.
About 15 minutes later, the Gullatt’s grandfather called police and said his grandson was involved, Lewis said. Officers found Gullatt in the 3900 block of Main Street and escorted him to the Bi-state Justice Building for an interview with detectives.
Police were notified later Saturday morning that Clark died from his injuries, Lewis said, and Gullatt was charged with murder.
He is being held in the Bi-State jail on a $1 million bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the crime is asked to call TTPD at 903-798-3116 or Crime Stoppers at 903-793STOP.
