Man critically hurt; wife charged with battery

A 43-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her 59-year-old husband on the left side of his face Sunday in Hempstead County, Ark.

Melanie Jackson has been arrested and charged with domestic battery second degree.

Her husband, Tony Jackson, was listed in critical condition Monday at CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

Pafford Emergency Medical Service said Tony Jackson was unable to talk because of the injury, said Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton.

Deputies Kyle Malone, Reyn Brown and Orlando Dennis were summoned to the call regarding the stabbing about 4 a.m. Sunday.

Melanie Jackson told deputies her husband woke her up cussing at her.

She started looking for her keys and Tony Jackson pushed her, she said.

“She then grabbed a steak knife from the kitchen sink and stabbed Tony on the left side on his face,” Singleton said.

The suspect was taken to Hempstead County Detention Center in Hope, where she awaits her first court appearance to be informed of the charges filed against her, Singleton said.
