Poly families search for sister wife in TLC series

- By Sarah Jamieson

Share the love: You’re going to be seeing double this season on TLC, as three families search for a sister wife. The Snowdens, Alldredges and Brineys introduce a new member into their poly families in “Seeking Sister Wife,” which airs a new episode Sunday, Feb. 18, on TLC.

Ashley and Dimitri Snowden live in Atlanta with two children (ages 2 and 4). Ashley is on her third and last pregnancy, but she and Dimitri want to continue expanding their family. They’ve already experienced heartbreak once, but the couple’s ready to know Jocelyn, a woman who seems committed to the relationship. Dimitri’s mesmerized by Jocelyn, and she seems taken with him as well, asking if he believes in love at first sight.

The Snowdens aren’t Mormons, but they hold a spiritual union and adhere to specific moral codes that they’ve worked out together. Since they plan to be open about the nature of their relationship, audiences will get to see them break the news to their families.

Melina comes down to meet the Alldredge family — Jeff, Vanessa and Sharis — who are searching for a third wife to grow their family. After the meeting, Jeff wonders if Melina represented herself as who she truly is, but the Alldredges decide to give her a chance nonetheless. The fundamentalist Mormon family has seven children, all under the age of 7, and they all live together under one roof with the women sharing the household duties.

Angela is already transitioning into the Briney family and having a rough time figuring out where she fits in. Drew Briney married her after a two-week courtship, and now Angela and his two other wives, April and Auralee, are moving into the same house with him and their 15 children. Angela gets pregnant just months after joining the family, and she doesn’t know how to act or how to make things work.

On top of that, the Brineys aren’t public about their pluralized family, so there’s tension surrounding the children, who may spill the beans to schoolmates, teachers and neighbors. The kids are made aware that they need to stay silent and not tell anyone they have three moms, or they could go to jail or get kicked out of their home.

Watch a few unconventional families find their groove in a new episode of “Seeking Sister Wife,” airing Sunday, Feb. 18, on TLC.

Good as gold: If you’re sick of all the backstabbing of reality television lately, why not watch a good-hearted family in Hallmark’s first prime-time family docuseries? “Meet the Peetes” premieres Sunday, Feb. 18.

“Meet the Peetes” stars Holly Robinson Peete, an actress and philanthropist, and her husband, Rodney Peete, the sports host and former NFL quarterback. The series follows them as they try to balance raising four children in Los Angeles with running a world-class charity for Alzheimer’s and autism.

Holly has a flourishing career as an actress, with a resumé that includes roles in “21 Jump Street,” “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper,” “Mike & Molly” and NBC’s hit drama series “Chicago Fire.” She began her philanthropy work after her father’s courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, expanding the cause to autism after the diagnosis of the couple’s eldest son. The HollyRod Foundation provides support and resources to those affected by either condition. Holly’s efforts earned her numerous nods from the community, including the Ford’s Freedom Sisters, American Mentor Award, A Place Called Home Humanitarian Award and McDonald’s 365 Black Award. She’s been married to Rodney for more than 20 years, which is nothing to sneeze at, either.

Rodney went right from the field to the studio as a co-host on Fox’s “The Best Damn Sports Show, Period.” He appeared on ABC’s “Sports Zone” on Saturday nights for two seasons and is now hosting the radio show “Lunchtime with Roggin & Rodney” on AM 570 LA Sports.

Holly’s mother, Delores, is no ordinary grandmother. She’s an 80-year-old who thinks she’s 40. After a long, successful career as an agent (where she launched the careers of Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, Emilio Estevez and, of course, her daughter, Holly), Dolores moved into the Peete household, getting tattoos and helping her granddaughter Ryan break into the music business.

Ryan is a musical arts student at NYU and a globetrotter at heart. She’s already traveled to India, Peru, Vietnam, Cambodia and Antarctica, advocating for children with special needs.

Rodney Jackson, or R.J., is the eldest son of the family and the one with autism. R.J. works in the clubhouse of the Los Angeles Dodgers and is a mentor at the Speech and Language Therapy Center, which he attended as a child. Now he provides support to autistic children.

His brother Robinson just started high school. Robinson’s already proving a gifted athlete, burgeoning rapper and hard-working student (he’s practicing his Japanese because his dream is to play professional baseball in Japan).

The youngest is Roman, who’s as bright as he is charming. As soon as he smiles his buck-toothed grin, you’re butter in the palm of his hand.

Forget the Joneses. You want to keep up with this good-as-gold family. “Meet the Peetes” premieres on Hallmark Sunday, Feb. 18.
