TC to break ground for workforce center

- —Jennifer Middleton

Texarkana College will hold a groundbreaking ceremony this week for the Center for Workforce Innovation on Coolidge Street next to the Pinkerton Center.

The $1.5 million building will house all the college’s workforce programs, including the construction technology department, which sits Texarkana Independent School District property.

The ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Monday, and trustees will meet immediately after to consider a tuition increase for the 2018-19 school year. The proposal includes a $2-per-hour increase for in-district and out-of-district students, and an extra $3 per hour for non-residents. Rough estimates show the increase could generate $110,000 in new revenue.

The board will also consider the 2018-19 calendar, which shows a semester start date of Aug. 20 and spring break March 11-15.

Board members will hear an update on the TC Foundation’s progress toward its goal of growing assets to $10 million by 2020 and growing the TC Alumni and Friends network to 1,000 members by 2018. A report included in the meeting agenda shows the foundation has reached the membership goal, but must continue the work toward $10 million, which is used to fund presidential scholarships.

The meeting will be held in the Patman Room of the Truman Arnold Student Center, 2500 N. Robison Road, Texarkana, Texas.
