Redwater starts strong at tourney

MCKINNEY, Texas—The Redwater Lady Dragons softball team went 2-0 on the first day of the McKinney Invitation­al Thursday.

The Dragons defeated McKinney North, 7-3, and then posted an 8-4 victory over Greenville.

Bethanee Calicott had four strikeouts for Redwater in the win over McKinney North.

Savannah Corbell led the Lady Dragons at the plate going 3 for 4.

Bailey O’Bannon, Crayton Bradford, and Emily Calicott had two hits apiece for Redwater.

Calicott had 11 strikeouts in the nightcap win over Greenville.

Bradford led the Lady Dragons at the dish with 3 RBI.

Arkadelphi­a 11, Arkansas High 1

ARKADELPHI­A, Ark.—Arkansas High fell to Arkadelphi­a on the road Thursday night.

Kaitlyn Fortenberr­y collected six strikeouts with no walks.

Pine Tree 9, Liberty-Eylau 6

LONGVIEW, Texas—Pine Tree jumped out on a 9-2 lead after three innings and defeated LibertyEyl­au at the Oil Belt baseball tournament Thursday.

Starting Leopard pitcher, Bryan Moore, gave up nine runs, but only three were earned, struck out six, walked one, and gave up eight hits.

Dakota Miller went 2 for 2 at the plate with a pair of singles, while teammates Preston Bunch, Gage Stanley, and Blake Carter each had one single for LibertyEyl­au. Moore, Marzavian Riles, and Cutter Webb each had an RBI.

The Leopards play Center and Rusk today, and go up against Nacogdoche­s and Hallsville on Saturday in the tournament.

Atlanta 5, Sulphur Springs 3, Game 1 Atlanta 8, Brookhill 1, Game 2

LINDALE, Texas—Atlanta won a pair of games to open up play at the Lindale baseball tournament.

Cade Rosser went 2 for 3 for the Rabbits in the Sulphur Springs game and drove in a pair of runs. Teammate Jake Thompson had 2 RBI and a hit.

Luke Anthony, Cade Miller, and Kelby Smith collected one hit each for Atlanta.

Winning pitcher Max Ebarb threw four innings with four Ks, walked a pair, and allowed just one run on four hits.

Atlanta’s Slayton Holland came in and pitched the last 3 1/3 innings, gave up no runs and no hits, and fanned five to earn the win against Brookhill.

Kade Wood went 3 for 4 from the dish, Rosser was 2 for 3, and teammates Samples and Anthony each went 2 for 4 to help the Rabbits win.

Miller and Harris win boys doubles for THS jayvee

LONGVIEW, Texas—Texas High’s junior varsity tennis squad competed in the Longview Invitation­al Thursday afternoon.

Davis Miller and Bryson Harris won the boys doubles for the Tigers.

Jackson Cheney and Jadan Ammons placed second in boys doubles for THS.

Shelbi Poole and Abby Elliott finished second in girls A doubles for Texas High.

Sarah Lingle and Lia Graham placed second in the girls B doubles for the Tigers.
