Liberty-Eylau posts two wins in tourney play

BASEBALL

Oil Belt Tournament Liberty-Eylau 8, Nacogdoche­s 3

KILGORE, Texas—Blake Carter found his groove on the mound and led Liberty-Eylau past Nacogdoche­s on Saturday in the Oil Belt Tournament.

Carter struck out four in 5 1-3 innings, while also getting two hits at the plate for the Leopards. Bryan Moore and Trevarie Hodge combined for five hits in the win.

Liberty-Eylau 2, Hallsville 1

KILGORE, Texas—LibertyEyl­au finished off its tournament play with a victory over Hallsville on Saturday.

Dakota Miller got the win on the mound, while also getting a hit and scoring a run for the Leopards. Bryan Moore and Marzavian Riles also finished with a hit apiece.

Texas High 8, Brook Hill 2

LINDALE, Texas—Texas High turned a close game into a rout with a five-run seventh inning to get the win on Saturday against Brook Hill.

Connor Allred an Dakota Turner hit two doubles and had two RBI apiece for the Tigers, and teammate Adam Quinn finished with an RBI also.

Texas High’s Cole Jean pitched five innings before Chris Sutton came in to relieve the final two frames.

Texas High 8, Atlanta 3

LINDALE, Texas—Adam Glenn launched two home runs, including an inside-the-park grand slam in bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie, to lead Texas High to big win over Atlanta on Saturday.

Texas High pitcher Cameron Ridley struck out three in 4 1/3 innings’ work.

Dakota Turner recorded a double and two RBI for the Tigers, and Connor Allred scored two runs and had two stolen bases. Cole Christen added an RBI and had a run scored.

Ashdown Tournament Arkansas High 12, Prairie Grove 0

ASHDOWN, Ark.—Arkansas High scored in every inning, including a six-run second, and cruised past Prairie Grove for an easy win Saturday.

Drake Browning led the Razorbacks offensivel­y as he went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and belted a home run and had two RBI. Wren Williams also had two RBI and hit a double.

Razorback pitcher Matthew Mobley pitched the complete, one-hitter while fanning seven batters in the process.

Girls SOFTBALL

Wylie Tournament Texas High 4, Sachse 0

WYLIE, Texas—Sachse could find no answers for Malory Smith on Saturday as the Texas High pitcher tossed a perfect game during the Wylie Tournament.

Smith went the distance and struck out 15 batters for Texas High.

Kaitlyn Cross and Lindsey Egger had a hit and two RBI apiece in the fifth inning to give the Lady Tigers all the runs they would need.

Texas High 5, Mesquite Horn 3

WYLIE, Texas—Texas High got off to a good start and fended off a late Mesquite Horn rally to post the win on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers scored two runs in each the second and third innings and added an insurance run in the fifth with a solo shot by Kaitlyn Cross.

Kylee Spriggs went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and Alexis Bolden finished with two hits.

Wylie East 2, Texas High 0

WYLIE, Texas—Texas High met its match on Saturday, losing its first game of the day to Wylie East.

Despite getting the loss, Mabry Smith played well on the mound as she finished with 14 strikeouts for the Lady Tigers.

Smith also found success at the plate, going 2-for-3 and hitting a double. Ashley Wyrick and Kylee Spriggs also hit a double apiece.

Texas High (7-3) will host Hallsville on Tuesday.

Elysian Fields Tournament Pleasant Grove 0, Huntington 0 (Tie)

ELYSIAN FIELDS, Texas— Pleasant Grove and Huntington finished in a tie on Saturday with tournament rules only allowing 80 minutes of play.

Kaylee Kelley, Zoey Smith and Natalie Nicholson each had a hit for the Lady Hawks.

Rains 8, Pleasant Grove 2

ELYSIAN FIELDS, Texas— Rains got off to a fast start and scored five runs in the third to take down Pleasant Grove on Saturday.

Lady Hawks’ Maddie Horn had an RBI in the loss, and teammates Kaylee Kelley and Emily Hilton combined for the other four hits.

Pleasant Grove 9, Elysian Fields 4

ELYSIAN FIELDS, Texas— Maddie Horn pitched the complete game and helped get Pleasant Grove past tournament host Elysian Fields on Saturday.

Horn tossed all three innings and allowed only four hits.

Hanna Snyder went 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI, scored two runs and had a stolen base for the Lady Hawks. Kaylee Kelley scored a run and teammate Zoey Smith had an RBI and stolen base.

SOCCER Arkansas High Tournament Pleasant Grove 9, Hope 0

Pleasant Grove ran away with an easy victory over Hope on Saturday at Razorback Stadium.

Avery Jensen executed the hat trick for the Lady Hawks as she scored three goals and finished with two assists. Teammate Katie Hutcheson had two goals, and Grace Pickelman, Delia Tuttlebee, Seagan Powell and Georgia Cobb each added a score.

Tuttlebee, Powell, Cobb, Aubrey Oller, Sofia Tuttlebee and Lauren Hughes had an assist apiece.

Pleasant Grove 3, Maumelle 0.

Pleasant Grove capped off the tournament with another shutout win, blanking Maumelle in the championsh­ip game.

Della Tuttlebee, Seagan Powell and Lauren Hughes each scored a goal for the Lady Hawks, with Katie Hutcheson assisting on two.

Pleasant Grove will be back in action on Friday when it hosts Pittsburg. PG’s junior varsity will kick off the action at 5 p.m., with the varsity team scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
