Fore, Lusk to face off for GOP nomination
Todd Fore will face Mike Lusk in a runoff for the Republican nomination for Bowie County Precinct 1, Place 2 Justice of the Peace, according to complete but unofficial results of Tuesday’s primary election.
Fore received 2,268 votes, or 44.8 percent, to Lusk’s 1,509, or 29.8 percent. Candidate Lonnie Johnson received 1,286 votes, or 25.4 percent.
“Three great guys ran for that position. That makes it hard to get through without a runoff,” Fore said.
Lusk had kind words for Johnson.
“I have known Lonnie Johnson for a long time. I wish him the best in his future endeavors. If I had not been in the race, I would have backed him 100 percent. Thanks to all my supporters, and I’ll see you in the runoff.”
Fore, 48, is a 19-year veteran of Bowie County Sheriff’s Office. He has said that if he wins the general election, managing truancy cases and an expected increase in state trooper citations are the issues he anticipates to be most pressing during his term. He and his wife, Joanna, have two sons and two grandsons.
Lusk, 57, is an attorney, former Texarkana, Texas, police officer, and Army National Guard and Marine Corps veteran. Coordinating workload with other justices of the peace, management of the office and fiscal responsibility are the issues he highlighted in a candidate questionnaire. He and his wife, Teresa, have two children and one grandchild.
The runoff election will take place May 22.
The Republican winner in the runoff will face Democratic challenger Jimmy Wesson in the November general election.
