Linden-Kildare too tough

Tigers run-rule DeKalb on first day

NEW BOSTON, Texas—LindenKild­are, James Bowie and host New Boston were winners Thursday in the opening games of the McDonald’s/New Boston Baseball Classic.

Linden-Kildare run-ruled DeKalb, 11-1, James Bowie withstood a late rally by Waskom to win, 7-5, and New Boston downed Maud, 6-2.

Action continues today with L-K vs. Waskom, 11:30; James Bowie vs. DeKalb, 2 p.m.; Maud vs. Genoa Central, 4:30; and Van Alstyne vs. New Boston, 7 p.m.

Linden-Kildare 11, DeKalb 1

Duece Schuler and Nick Kunze combined to toss a one-hitter, and the Tigers banged out nine hits to win the five-inning game.

L-K improves to 5-1-1 on the season.

Dalton Alford banged out a base clearing, three-run double in the fourth inning, and also had a single to pace the Tigers.

Marty Johnson and Tracer Henry also had two hits.

Dylan Hanna had the only hit for DeKalb with a single.

James Bowie 7, Waskom 5

It was much too late for Waskom as the Pirates survived a five-run, seventh inning.

James Bowie (1-0), used three pitchers in the final seventh inning as Waskom had the potential tying runs on second and third when the game ended.

The Pirates tallied four runs in the second inning with Evan Barron driving in the last two runs with a double.

James Bowie added a pair of runs in the fourth and another in the fifth for a seemingly comfortabl­e lead, 7-0.

Johnathan Cody, Culen McIntosh, Whitt Rogers, Bailey Obenoskey, and Barron had two hits each in the Pirates’ 13-hit attack.

Obenoskey was the winning pitcher, tossing 4 2/3 scoreless innings.

New Boston 6, Maud 2

Jake Bobbitt pitched 6 1/3 innings, scattering five hits, striking out seven batters, and allowing just one run.

The Lions had built up a 4-0 lead before Maud finally scored in the sixth.

New Boston added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-1 advantage.

Brian Reid, Tyler Strain, Bryce Green, and Gage Smith had a single each in the sixth.

Smith went 3-4 with a double and two singles to pace the Lions’ seven-hit attack.
