Pantherettes blank PG

- By Bob Krayl

Unfortunately for Pleasant Grove, the Lady Hawks will have to play North Lamar again this season and pitcher Reagan Richardson.

The senior right-hander tossed a no-hitter, striking out six and walking three, leading the Pantherettes to a 5-0 victory Friday at Lady Hawk Field. It was a District 14-4A opener for both teams. But that wasn’t all.

The left-handed batter Richardson banged out three singles, drove in a run and scored twice. Richardson, who tossed her third career no-hitter, will be attending Texas State University at San Marcos after graduation.

There were some very good things for the Lady Hawks.

Left fielder Kaylee Kelley made two nice catches, center fielder Hannah Snyder tossed out a runner at the plate to complete a double play, and Emily Hilton made

Richardson work overtime, fouling off numerous pitches, getting two walks after 18 pitches.

“We had some good things that we can build on,” said PG coach Becca Collom. “We had better defense, and we had some good at-bats, putting the ball in play. We played well against a very good team.”

Pleasant Grove (4-10

1) will be in action again Tuesday at Atlanta.

North Lamar (14-2) scored single runs in the first three innings for a 3-0 lead, and then closed out the scoring with two runs in the sixth.

Pleasant Grove had its best chance for a base hit in the sixth, when the Pantherettes shortstop made a nice play on Kelley’s grounder near second, and their third baseman snared Kristin Key’s line drive.
