Crimes given a second look in ‘Grace vs. Abrams’
Lawyer up: Prepare for some fierce legal battles as Nancy Grace (“Nancy Grace”) and Dan Abrams (“This Week”) move their brawls from “Good Morning” to prime-time television with “Grace vs. Abrams,” premiering Thursday, March 29, on A&E. These two legal powerhouses dive into some of the nation’s most notorious and monumental cases, reviewing the evidence, accused, defense, witnesses and more, and sharing how they would’ve handled the trial and where their judgment lies.
Both Grace and Abrams are no strangers to the small screen, with Grace even finding her way into feature films. Grace is one of America’s most prominent legal commentators, known for her advocacy of victims’ rights and for being an outspoken, fierce prosecutor. Television and film have long accompanied her life as an attorney, with a variety of appearances and hosting roles filled by her during her career. While many will remember her as the host of “Nancy Grace” on HLN, or her stint as host of “Closing Arguments” for Court TV, Grace has also had cameos in films such as “Midnight Special” (2016) and the popular television series “Mr. Robot.”
Abrams, in contrast, has focused less on big-screen appearances and spent more time as a network news legal correspondent and anchor. Abrams is the chief legal affairs anchor for ABC News, with prior experience as a correspondent and analyst for NBC. He’s also no stranger to A&E, hosting both “60 Days In” and “Live PD.” Abrams’ approach to cases is thorough and matter-of-fact, with no hardlined presumption of innocence for either side. An advocate of irrefutable proof, Abrams may see the facts clearly laid out before him and yet realize that it may not be enough to convict.
With both famed attorneys steadfast in their convictions and dedication to the pursuit of truth and justice, it will be thrilling to watch the pair pull apart some of the nation’s most legendary cases. “Grace vs. Abrams” begins its first bout on Thursday, March 29, on A&E.
Feeling infectious: As spring is welcomed in, it’s nonetheless hard to forget the vicious flu and cold season of this past winter. It’s the perfect time for a series on the legacy and far-reaching impact of viruses, which Discovery and Science have so graciously lined up. “In- visible Killers” is a three-part series, with its premiere episode, “Influenza,” airing Thursday, March 29, on Discovery and Science.
Viruses are a constant in the history of humanity, with an ability to continually evolve and mutate into new variations that even the most modern medical developments find themselves unable to stop. This persistence leads to millions of deaths every year, all around the world. The three most lethal and notorious viruses — influenza, smallpox and ebola — each have their moment in this new three-part series.
The flu is perhaps the most expansive and devastating in terms of its reach, easily caught and hard to shake off once infected. Smallpox, however, has amassed quite the body count, responsible for more deaths than all of the wars since humanity began having them. Ebola may seem the meekest of the three, but once a luckless individual is infected, the effects of the virus terrify and isolate as though it were a horror film fully realized.
Discovery spent three years developing this series, with a desire to educate and provide understanding about our relationships with illness in its viral forms, and how outbreaks can destroy or transform nations. It was equally important for the series to share the advancements being made in the field, along with insight into the future challenges and trials of these viruses as society continues to grow and advance.
Pandemic preparedness awaits. Delve into the first episode, “Influenza,” of the three-part series “Invisible Killers,” which premieres Thursday, March 29, on Discovery and Science, with the next two episodes following immediately afterward on Science.
Love triumphs: These days, many reality TV series are founded on the premise that fighting and yelling will always receive more views. Countless promo videos emphasize jealousy and backstabbing as desirable viewing material, trying to shift the narrative of what might be considered desirable or acceptable behavior. A new reality TV series is taking a hard stand against all of this negative energy, with a deep devotion to sharing love and the success that it brings. Feel the good vibes with “Teyana & Iman,” which premieres Monday, March 26, on VH1.
Teyana Taylor (“Madea’s Big Happy Family,” 2011) is an established recording artist and actress, but also newly wed to her beau, Sacramento Kings shooting guard Iman Shumpert. Each successful and financially independent on their own, this husband and wife celebrate each other’s successes and share support for one another when confronted by any challenges that may arise. Their love is also expressed through raising their daughter, Junie, who entered the world with the help of her father in the couple’s own home.
The pair’s combined Instagram followers exceed seven million, all of whom have borne witness to the power of their devotion. With their new series, Teyana and Iman hope to promote love over hate, regardless of where a person comes from, who they love or the skin they’re in.
Embrace love and leave the shady reality TV behind, with a glimpse into the life of “Teyana & Iman,” premiering Monday, March 26, on VH1.
