Hogs top Panthers in extra innings

A team must capitalize on every opportunit­y available.

Arkansas High defeated Fouke in extra innings at Razorback Field, 4-3.

“It was a huge win for us as a ball club,” Arkansas High head baseball coach Layne Berry said. “I was a little frustrated with our execution and how we came out so lackadaisi­cal. Hats off to those guys, they played a heckuva game and stayed in it the entire night.”

Both teams matched runs in the third inning.

Brayden Larey drove in Blake Uncel to put the Panthers on the scoreboard first in the top of the third.

Larey went 1 for 3 with an RBI for Fouke.

The Hogs answered at the bottom of the third when Drake Browning drove in a run.

Browning finished his night going 1 for 3 with an RBI and also scored a run for the Razorbacks.

“Close games with teams in close proximity, get intense at times,” Berry said. “Fouke is a well-coached team. They’ve struggled some this year but they didn’t show it tonight. They came out and really competed.”

Hog senior ace Matthew Mobley earned the win on the bump.

Mobley pitched six innings, gave up one run, three hits and struck out 10 Panther batters.

“Mobley threw too many pitches and too many 3-2 counts,” Berry said. “Dylan came in and shut them down but Mobley only held them to one run, so he did what he was supposed to do by keeping us in the game. Dylan pitched well and we may not have him tomorrow.”
