Local summer workshops for teachers planned
Advanced Placement Summer Institutes will be held this summer at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, 7101 University Ave.
This is the university’s first time hosting the workshops, which are geared toward high school teachers.
They will be held June 26-29 and July 17-20.
APSI provides teachers with at least 30 hours of pedagogical and content-rich training in AP course instruction.
College Board-endorsed consultants guide the participants through a number of College Board resources including course outlines, content-related handouts, student samples, scoring guidelines and commentary from the most recent AP Exam free-response questions.
Training must be completed before school districts are allowed to offer Advanced Placement courses. Participants receive an Advanced Placement Certificate, which serves as their national accreditation to teach such courses.
“Hosting an AP Summer Institute in Texarkana allows us to provide valuable teacher preparation in a professional environment and prepare educators to guide students towards a successful college experience,” said Shelley Caraway, executive director of extended education at A&MTexarkana.
“Meeting the professional development needs of our K-12 educators is core to our mission of providing the highest quality continuing education possible.”
