Rotarians honor local outstanding teachers
Texarkana Rotary Clubs honored educators Thursday at the 25th annual Cecil Phillips Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.
Teachers from all four local school districts, including five Teachers of the Year, were recognized during the event at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church. Guest speaker was Texas Rep. Gary VanDeaver. Teachers of the Year are:
■ Jami Blain, Liberty-Eylau Independent School District elementary;
■ Connie Green, L-EISD secondary;
■ Anne Formby, Texarkana,
Ark., School District;
■ Cynthia E. Gauntt, Texarkana, Texas, ISD elementary; and
■ Fanshicka Banks-Brown, TISD secondary.
Summer Gibson represented Pleasant Grove ISD, which will name its Teacher of the Year later in the school year.
Each school district honored other outstanding teachers from each of their campuses, as well.
L-EISD recognized Vickie Davis of L-E Early Childhood Center; Susan Owens of L-E Elementary; Mende Stiles of L-E Middle; and David Moulton of L-E High.
PGISD recognized Sondra Crain of PG Elementary; Katie Clark of PG Intermediate; Robyn Hatridge of PG Middle; and Gibson of PG High.
TASD recognized Bryan Fountain of College Hill Elementary; Emily Parker of Fairview Elementary; Sarah Allen of Trice Elementary; Margrett Starling-Howard of Kilpatrick Elementary; Juanita Harris of Union Elementary; Jennifer Breedlove of ABC Preschool; Stelton Hill of College Hill Middle; Elizabeth Carter of North Heights Junior High; Frank Pearson of Arkansas High; Cody Hill of Texarkana, Ark., Career and Technological Center; and Sharon Womack of Washington Academy Charter.
TISD recognized Carrie Smith of Paul Laurence Dunbar Early Education Center; Romegan Ford of Highland Park Elementary; Jodi Spakes of Morriss Elementary; Stephanie Parker of Nash Elementary; Chelsea Adams of Spring Lake Park Elementary; Bryana Fountain of Theron Jones Early Education Center; Erika Purtle of Waggoner Creek Elementary; Cindy Gore of Wake Village Elementary; Melody Cranford of Westlawn Elementary; Amber Merrick of Texas Middle; Chuck Zach of Texas High; and Mendell Glass of alternative education.
