Hammer Time, Prime Time at monster truck show
With names like Big Chief, Prime Time and the Punisher at the Four States Fairgrounds this Saturday night, you might think a wrestling extravaganza has arrived.
However, these are largerpersonalities of a different sort: monster trucks. Presented by AMMP Motorsports, Monster Madness that night brings massively modified monsters to the fairgrounds’ Entertainment Center with those trucks and others, such as Twisted Addiction, Fatal Attraction and Hammer Time.
AMMP stands for Arkansas Mud & Monster Productions, which is based in Searcy, Ark., and they’ll bring the noise starting at 6 p.m. for the main show. That’s preceded by a meet-and-greet that gives access to the drivers and their remarkable rigs.
“We’re going to start out
with a pit party at 4 p.m. The gates are going to open at 3 p.m.,” said promoter Greg Price. Attendees there will also get a chance to meet the four-wheeler drivers and see a children’s power wheel race.
“We’re going to have a race with them,” Price said. The youngsters get to be in the pit party right alongside the monster trucks. Rides on the Punisher, whose driver is from New Boston, Texas, said the promoter, are also available.
“Right after the pit party, everybody will go back in the stands,” Price said. Then the big show starts with racing, wheelies and freestyle. Quad wars are also scheduled. “We’ve got 10 to 12 racing four-wheelers coming in,” the promoter said. There will be an Arkansas vs. Texas theme to this competition, plus a few long jumps.
Overall, expect a thrilling ride of monster truck mayhem on Saturday night. Post-show rides with the Punisher will also be available. Rides are $10. The pit party is free.
“Once the show starts, it’s about a two-hour show,” Price said.
